  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Is anyone running a new front end with 48mm KYB's on an older WR (04-06)?

The triple clamp on the older bikes has a different offset so I was wondering how it steered with the new setup?

Thanks

I have been pondering the same thing. Just curious - What are the different offsets used?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the older WR's were 15mm and the new ones are 20mm. My 04 had Ferracci 50mm clamps on it which were the same offset as stock. I measured, and had a machine shop make up some shims so I could use a set of 48 OC KYB's. I have a spare set of newer triples I would like to try instead of using the shims, but If it's not going to steer, or steer too quickly, it may not be worth it.

I have an 04 and 11 WR's. The frames on both look the same to me. They even left the old steering stops on the steering head. I was never able to find out why Husky changed the offset on the triple. The zoke 50's and KYB's have the same offset as well, so the only change from the older bikes to the newer, would be the triple clamp offset.

If i'm wrong on any of this please let me know - thanks

I have a TC449 front end on my 06 WR250 including the triples. To be honest, I'm not sure how easy the swap was because I bought the bike from ajaxauto here on the Cafe. I'll have to ask if it was plug and play or if he needed to change the bearings. However, it works awesome!

Thanks - the bearings are not too much of a problem. Where are the steering stops? Added to the frame?

That is a '12, but as far as I know, that is the only stop change. The '06 should have the stop on the head tube only. I think they got the bolt style stops in '10? I may be wrong, but I think that is right

Yeah, so I was wondering how he added the steering stops to the 06 frame since the old triples use the head tube stops and the new triples use the frame stops.

Ah, sorry. I thought you were asking where husky put the stops.

My poor bike has been buried behind other bikes most of the year since I didn't race much. I'll be sliding it to the front to get it ready for next season and I'll take some pics for you.
