• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

WR165 vs Beta 250RR, how do they compare?

typeone

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Has anyone done a good comparo of the WR165 to the Beta 250RR? I love my 165 to death, but I'm seriously considering grabbing a 250RR for the bump in power.

What will I like / dislike about the swap? I wish I could test one but that's prob not going to happen.

I will be making the final decision in the next few weeks. Any input or links would help a ton.

Thanks!

If you can find a 250 rr get it. There's only floor models left until August.I like my 300rr better for steep tight stuff.

yeah, the steeper, rocky stuff is what has me thinking. the 165 gnaws up everything but some more power would help sometimes. BUT, i just love tossing that little bike around though, hoping the 250RR doesn't feel much heavier w/ slower steering (?)

When I rode the 300rr I was on my 09 144 husky. The 300 for sure felt heavier but also had a lot more power. Tradeoffs for every bike. Hard to go wrong with a Beta though.

thanks. the 300 is the same chassis/weight as the 250, correct?

do you know if the original Motosportz 36mm Lectron, without machining, fits the 2013 250RR? i will keep the carb if it fits. love that thing.

I think it will be to long.

typeone; a few have put the Lectron on the Beta (both 250 & 300) and one kept his of another bike and mentioned he contacted the principal @ Lectron and they machined it down. Both owners reported improved mileage & tuneablility. I had searched both the Beta section in Thumpertalk and betarider.org for Lectron as I'm trying to improve my mileage. If you need help in finding that info just let me know and I'll copy & paste for you.

thanks, guys. i'm aware of the option to machine down, wasn't sure if it was more complicated than that so great to know it's not!

you think the 38 is significantly better than the 36 for a 250? i'm assuming no.

The original 36 is to long. I sent mine to Lectron to have it transformed into a shortly for a very fair price. I came back and had a perfect fit. I'd go 38mm on the 300RR as they were speckled with a reed spacer to fill the crank case with more air. I had to remove my reed spacer for a perfect fit. The 250 does not use a spacer.

Also stay with a stock Sachs shock spring the coils are thinner than other's and will not interfere with clearance. I bought mine from my Husky dealer for cheap.

cool, thanks 454x!

what are your impressions from going back-to-back with the 165-to-300. huge weight difference or is it more of a 'bigger bike' feel without feeling porky? i think the 165 and 250 are fairly close in dry weight.

I had the precursor to the 165.. the Uptite 167 .... I don't have a great skillset and the 167 didn't have near the power the 165 does... but so far I like my 250rr alot... it's very linear and has the "snort" that my 167 did not. Had them both in my garage and the wheelbase was nearly identical (mine was as 2004 CR 167). So far it feels the same to me as far as lightness and handling goes (i've added a bigger tank /skid plate/ guards) etc... and it's lower to the ground... I like the feel of the Husky so I raised the bars and put low boy fastways on it....

My cr wb 165 is a my 2012 and the two bikes feel similar in weight because they are set up very similar. Like Kevin said I also added a set of tall KX High Pro Tapers to make it feel more husky. The difference in feel for me is all about how the power is delivered. The 300rr just has more grunt and is easier to ride when the going gets steep and tight.

great feedback, thanks guys.

i went to go look at a 2013 250RR last night. damn that is one sexy machine. think i'm gonna grab it but still trying to decide.

Don't wait too long. It might not be there later

i need to wait until next week to make the final decision. funds related. if all goes well... that puppy be mine! but man i'll be sad to see the little Husky go bye-bye. we've bonded in a big way.
