  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc WR problem. Quick help! Competition incoming!

SO the problem is that my bike doesn't get rpm much above powerband. It seems like my bike has a rpm limiter (which i don't have!!) and when i go full throttle at any gear it just says wutututu.. Problem came up after i assembled new wiring harnesses and voltage regulator.

PV is ok, exhaust is stock WR 'racing'. Is the problem in ignition or what?

This is my current regulator.

Green/Black wire to that Yellow one there and aluminium part to the frame. Is it OK? Because i found out that there are two wires and i can't get where those go.. (Pink and Blue). Owners manual says that those two are for thing named "Scroll". What is Scroll?? :censored:

I thought voltage regulators were for things like lights and speedo (so you dont spike them coming off the generator) im not sure it has anything to do with the ignition that all happens on a separate circuit

Unfortunately we didn't get that WR or the Euro spec WR at all. The problem started when you installed the new wiring harness/regulator, so somewhere you have an issue. Maybe someone else with that model and familiar with that wiring harness can chime in.

I forgot to tell that it already had this same problem with old wiring harness. So where is problem?

And i think it's USA-CDN version

Sorry for the double posting. I found out that problem goes away when I take voltage regulator off from the wirings. So the problem is that regulator. It gives approx 3 volts out with regulator so it seems like there isn't enough for ignition.

Do I try to buy new regulator or just change my bike to KTM... Here in Finland it's so slow to get original spare parts to husq. Cylinder wasn't even avaible at husky's factory/storage (Italy??) and original voltage regulators shipping time is in next June..

Same thing happened to me when I added a Trail Tech reg/rec and battery to my 250. When I made the new harness I connected to the yellow lead from the stator harness and connected one of the yellow wires from the reg/rec to to the frame as I figured I could use that as my reference back to the stator since one end is tied to the frame. Things worked great until about mid RPM's then it would flat line. I ended up reworking the stator so the lightning coil is not connected to the frame through the stator core. I now have two yellow wires coming from the stator going to to the reg/rec and all is well. I never really tried to figure out what was going on; wish I would have put my o-scope on it... Maybe has to do with the voltage level from the stator vs RPM and the regulator having to clamp voltage at higher RPM...

You can use most any 12 volt regulator for this application. It sounds like your regulator is shorting to ground. The thing I notice is that the old WR ignition shouldn't have the regulator in the ignition circuit at all. It has a separate exciter coil for the ignition. At least on the WR ignitions that I have had. Can you post a pic of your stator and wiring harness coming out of your stator?

He shouldn't get the same issue as kzoo. Which would be the rectifier shorting it out every half cycle. Just goes to show how tough those stators are.

From looking at the manual and guessing I'd say the scroll is an external button to scroll through the menu on the speedo.

Like wallybean said a pic of your stator and the wires coming out.

If you always had the problem could it be jetting? I had mine 4 stroking due to rich jetting but it was a different sound to a limiter.

Sorry folks, i can't upload pics from mobile. So stay tuned, they are coming!

Today when i get to home, I'll try with button that Scroll thing!

Thank you everybody!
