  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc WR 360 case split? / Suspension ?'s

Husqvarna
AA Class
Had main rod bearing go on me last month and after a good deal of soul searching i've decided to keep and rebuild...so a couple questions.

Suggestions on how to split engine cases, w/o case split tool. I've never done this before.
any other suggestions or hints for this work? I'm taking my time & taking loads of pictures.
Already picked who i'm sending crank to and sending Cylinder to Millennium Tech.

Now for suspension...i had local guy do seals bushings, have race tech valves in forks...i have no confidence in front end; i did alot of road racing and know what a planted front feels like and the confidence it gives. Using 10wt oil at about 115-120 oil height. I should have sent to LT and will next time!

I'm 190lbs w/o gear, i'd consider myself an intermediate rider, who's improving quickly; ride in NE GA, mainly tight single track, clay, roots, rock, loose shale, some pretty nasty stuff! Also some more open 3/4th gear hardpack, I have new Pirellis XSCM (?) tires. I have no idea what weight fork springs i have, i just ordered .45 based on RaceTech calculator. Rear spring currently on bike is 5.4, R-Tech suggests close to a 5.8...should i order that or a 5.6.

I figure i'm "All In" now w/this bike so i want to set it up as best i can.
Thanks for your help, this site has been a great resource!!

it doesn't require specialty tools to split the case, all you need is a sledge hammer, the best spot to hit them for a real large split is.............

I have split cases over the years and can tell you without the tools you will damage the cases beyond use

I recently split some cases without a case splitter and they came apart easily. I just worked my way around with light and gentle tapping with a rubber mallet and they came apart easily. I would give it a try before buying the tool. Just never use anything to pry them apart. If they are stubborn and won't come apart, then buy the tool.

Case splitting tool is bloody cheap, as with a flyweel remover and crank puller...just added to the ever expanding tool chest!!

Agree with the other posters in tapping it with a rubber mallet (some pull apart easily) but if you have the tools then use them:

RMATV have a great video on how to split a 2t case.
