  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc WR 300 rattle noise

hogwackr

Husqvarna
AA Class
Does anyone notice a rattle noise on there WR? It almost sounds like someone is banging rocks together. It only seems to happen in the mid range. I don't hear it down low or in the upper rpm range. I noticed this noise from day 1. I can't seem to duplicate it long enough to try to figure out where it's coming from. Any advise?

Does it make it at steady throttle? On acceleration? Deceleration? Maybe the powervalve linkage is making that noise.

never on decel, maybe a slight sign on accel. Loudest at steady mid rpm throttle. It will come and go, I can't seem to make it continuous. It never does it on hard throttle only with moderate throttle. I would think detonation would happen across the rev range but I'm not sure. Thanks for the reply!

I don't know if you rotated the kickstart round one spline? I have on mine and when you aren't riding there looks to be sufficient clearance between the pipe and kickstart. When I first rode the bike at mid throttle there was a loud metalic vibration. It was infact the kickstart vibrating against the pipe and only doing at certain throttle openings.

Well, I rode it today and the kickstart has nothing to do with my noise. I pulled the plug and it's a nice shade of brown. I'm convinced it's inside the engine, I just don't what the cause is......

The power valve on a GasGas can make a rattle especially when it's lugged along in 3rd gear. I'm not sure if a husky can do the same thing, when my GasGas does it it almost sounds like the chain is slapping something. I've never heard my Husky do it though.

Sounds like detonation to me. I'd say you're on the road, holding the throttle at one spot and letting the bike go through the rev range in that position ?

It is very noticeable while crusing at a consistant speed. It will do it other times but not nearly as frequent. What do I need to do to eliminate it? I never ran into this before.

If you think it's detonation try higher octane fuel and/or jet the according circuit richer. If it does it at the same throttle position, say for example just off idle then go richer on the pilot or even try adjusting the air screw.

You'll simply have to add fuel at that throttle opening. I'd guess you needle diameter is too big, or pilot is too small. Might just try moving the needle clip down one and see if it helps.

Thanks for the help guys! I'll post back when I get a chance to tear the carb off and see whats going on.

hmm mine makes a screech under accel, only happened last ride, i think its clutch noise.

yeah id check your jetting first, maybe wrong in your mid range.

I'm going to start by moving the needle up a notch and go from there. I talked to my dealer and he said my condition may have something to do with the new ignition. They have been using the same jetting that they used with the old ignition. Maybe the timing is different with the electronic ign?

Check timing too. My yami came advanced 1.5deg from the factory and I could never get rid of the ping until fixing that.
Sure ran hard though!

Yes, it might have something to do with the new ignitions. Do you have taller gearing for street use?

Running stock 13/48 gearing. It makes the same noises in the dirt but mostly when maintaining speed. It won't do it when wicking the throttle. I really only do small sections of road use. Mostly connecting trails. I think you guys are on the right track, Prob. just leaning out at consistant throttle.
