  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc wr 250 vs 360

Hello all! I have a 99 wr 250 (with a street title) that I`m rebuilding. I recently came across an 01 360.I`m trying to build a good all around woods bike. As my TE 450 can be a bit of a hand full in the tight stuff!
so? what would must of you guys want to run? I did just have the 250 motor rebuilt and the 360 needs refreshing. I really like my huskys and want to build one solid woods bike and turn my 450 into a supermoto or maybe sell it.
any thoughts? or opinions?

Being a bit of an authority and owning a 99 250 and a 02 360 can i just say both are very good woods bikes, 250 was torquey and revs hella high but the lack of 6th irritated me. Not a bad machine will lug up most things without too much issue.

Now 2002 360 i like this bike a lot it will rip your shoulders from your sockets an claim your not feeding it enough this will idle up most gnarly hills in 3rd but if you are zelous on the throttle you keep her in 5th now the funs a happening point an shoot.
Both handle very similar probably cus of same chassis, 360 feels slightly bulkyer but is just as nimble with more oomph to get going again.

go 250 if your happy revving
Go 360 if you want to scare yourself
Get lectron on either an be laughing all the way to hospital ;)

Summary keep the rebuilt 250, 360's are a bit marmite.

I have a 96 360 & it's an absolute weapon! It would probably not be my pick if I was building a bike for woods/singletrack riding. Now, whilst it's an absolute hoot to ride (will climb any hill, jump any gap & hoist the front wheel in any gear), if you find the 450 to much in the woods then I really do believe you will probably find the 360 will be the same. Don't get me wrong, they are great bikes, but they are a LOT of bike at the same time. Having said that they are very torquey & have a really nice linear power delivery for a two stroke and not as hard to ride as one would think that a bog two stroke would be! I really like them personally, particularly for desert riding & racing as they are geared to fly! A thought, you could always go have a look at it & take it for a wee spin and see if you like it? Actually that's probably a good way to go! You might take it for a spin & find it's perfect for you.

No don't take it for a spin you will buy it.
Stick with the freshly rebuilt 250 you will be laughing.

Good input guys! Thanks, so the 360 is more of a parts bike. I`m going to buy it so i can update my 99 to 00/04 plastics and bigger tank. plus it has pc pipe and some other odds and ends. I`m sure at some point the 360 motor will make it in the frame. but for now i`ll finish the build with the 250. Then I can sell the left over parts and use that money to help rebuild the 360. That way i can try them both out, then sell the motor I don`t want.

the 360 has a torque advantage over the 250 but if you run 250 type rpm's it becomes a handful
the gyroscopic effect of the larger engine is the real complaint
a 125 properly set up is easy to ride but the torque of the 360 makes gear changing not so critical
the 360 is a good machine but needs to be ridden for torque
juicy is correct get a Lectron, it is a HUGE improvement in ride ability

I never struggled with 360 in tight woods, but as stated its can be a handful if your used to your 450 off road and are capable with it 360 would be easy.

Stick to the 250 its a very good bike.

if you like torque the 360 is excellent! its a willing revver with a good pipe and lectron but does its best work working the bottom and letting it creep into the mid when needed. can be a handful if you dont have the throttle control of course..
a 250 is a great motor as well. you can never go wrong with a 250! of course, i would buy both. easy!

Lectron that good then guy's?
its not going to fix other problems but they are a nice upgrade to almost all people that buy em...what ive noticed about them is the appeal to the guys that know nothing about carbs and just want a carb thats simpler...but also an appeal to guys that really appreciate fine tuning. the power delivery is nice!

Lectron that good then guy's?

2 advantages, my 360 was tough to start and the jetting was just a bit finicky as I ride in the mountains and was never spot on except the middle altitude and I mean 3000'+ elevation change it was really nice on the crisp throttle response regardless of altitude or barometer
so yes a good investment
I almost got rid of my 99 360 before swapping

Ha ha yeah 2premo i was in the same mood, fouled plugs every 4 hours dropped £70+ on brass for mikuni first carb ive ever struggled to jet figured its just worn out bought a lectron now your gunna have to pry my bike outta my cold dead hands.

I knew i loved the lectron on the deceleration all the over fuelling pop and surging was gone, just became electric if you can understand that.

Thinking about putting one on my 250cr. Mikuni seems ok except takes a couple kicks to start when cold. Needs choke to start but have to shut it off right after.
