• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I'm work on a secret project code name "googly goggles" that would project moving 3D Google image inside your goggles based on your current GPS location.:D

Ya I've been using it for a long time. You can also down load your GPS to it a see the new trails you're on.
Very Cool

yeah.. nothing like a trail, but just scary how good and detailed it is..

This is how I've been using it for while now. End of each day, I download all my tracks in to Google Earth. Pretty cool to have it all laid out.

I am a Google Earth junkie. I am scouting new trails and finding old trails near my house all the time with it. Great for figuring out how to make loops out of existing trails. You can plot out a path with milage to see how much trail you can get in a given area etc...

I cant wait to get the new VZW Droid so I can pinpoint my current location on GE realtime.

We used my buddies Droid and google maps the other day DSing. Worked well. Would be cool if you could load some maps to use off line, maybe you can? Maybe I'll bolt a iPad to my bars :>)

Garmin will not allow other maps to be down loaded other than their Topo's but other makes of GPS might.

Whoever teams up with GoogleEarth like Garmin or someone then runs a GPS with maps like GE (2D,3D) will be a great seller.

I meant to download to the Droid or other smart phone for viewing out of network area.

I don't like this at all ....
if you can use it to find trails, the greenies, fish & Game, environmental police and local police can use it to shut down your private stash ....
don't like it at all .....

I'd think this is a small worry. I mean google earth has been avaliable for like 5+ years already.. And government agencies have had better technology decades before that.

I have the new topo canada v4 in 3d and garmin birdseye, which allows you to download sat images into your garmin gps.

Where do you ride?

Been exploring where we rode in Utah and found some trails we blew right by i wish i knew were there. This makes a good tool for figuring out where to go on stuff like wide open Utah riding. Only really helpfull if you ahve been there and understand the layout though.

Cliffhanger trail, Moab UT

this is the trailhead for Cliffhanger. Jake and Shane had simultaneous get offs right here and i got to witness it all. They were on trails on oppisite sides of the small canyon and crashed like it was orchestrated. Good times.

Yeah they do. I download all kinds of maps (mind you I don't own a single Garmin made/sold map) to my Garmin GPSes. None of them work as well as the Garmin Topo maps but they do provide you the necessary info (topo info, etc).
