  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Won't run after changing fuel filter

So I had some misfiring and popping on acceleration when I got high in the rpm. Cleaned all the electrical connections and what not and it still did. Bike would start fine and run. Idle would be kind of low sometimes and the missing only started once you got high into rpms. So I replaced the fuel filter which was filthy. Gassed her up and now it runs horribly. Has trouble starting and when it does it idles at like 1,200 rpm for a second before dying. The fuel pump primes, I tightened the fuel hoses, and the filter is on the right way. Any thoughts? Apparently I've caused a new problem that needs to be fixed so I can get back to figuring out the high rpm missing.

If it was me and mine, I'd pull out the assembly and remove the filter and replace with just a piece of hose, which is how I ran mine until I found the auto filter that I currently use. If this solves your problem, then the filter is bad. The pic below is how I ran mine for a few hundred miles last year. If running no filter doesn't help. your pressure regulator may be bad although we have not seen any failures of the pressure regulator as far as I have read.

I thought about doing that earlier. I hope it is just the fuel filter.

Hope you get your bike going soon and the good Lord knows I never want that contraption on my bike(s) ...

We have replaced about ten injectors that are plugged on two or more holes Ianthe last couple of months. THEY WERE ALL corroded. We are seeing more and more of this.We never used to look at injectors first but now almost every time something starts running a bit poor or rough we find badly corroded injectors. Are thought is we are trying a little two cycle oil in gas to try to cut down on corrosion.Sorry for typos but kindle isharder.

He's not a fan of EFI.

I'm not a fan of it on a dirt bike, now that I have experienced it, I love it on my street bike. I rode my Husky up in Cloudcroft, NM (9000' elevation) some time ago, got 50 MPG the first day, then the next day, had to get towed back to town, replaced the fuel filter, then I got 30MPG that day. weird, weird very weird, almost makes me want to believe that the clogged up filter was leaning my mix, and when I gave full flow with a clean filter, it went back to being rich as hell.

Todays gas is crap, I run a mix of the highest octane (91) pump and Sunoco 112 premium 1 gal 112/4 gal 91, add Marvel Mystery oil and Sta-bil or Seafoam in the 5 gal can.
Helps keep the crappy gas longer and lubes the rest. 08 TE 08 SM 09 TE

What does that mean?

The fuel tanks on my Huskies have air or gas in them and I hope it stays that way a long time before I have to upgrade to all that is shown in that pic ...

I don't mean to say efi is not the greatest ... I just don't want it or need it currently ...

It was the filter that didn't work. Didn't want to run it without one so I went and bought a Ducati filter and it fired right up. Ducati filter is nice. Same length just slightly fatter and works with the 5/16" hose you can buy at autozone. Also made of metal so it seems a bit sturdier. It is $30 which is more than the automotive one but the Husky ones are always on backorder so it is a good alternative.

Thanks for the wrap-up post, glad you got some satisfaction.

Is this the one?

Here's a cut open Ducati filter, there is a lot of good filter material in this fat filter.

Yep, that's the one. I ran all over the place trying to find an automotive one and a Ducati shop 5 minutes from here had about 100 of them. Doh. It is a fatty. I was a bit worried it wouldn't fit. When I fired the bike up this morning it didn't need to run for 10 to 15 seconds to get to the proper rpm. It instantly ran at 1900rpm so hopefully it also fixed my other issue of the bike running poorly in high rpm.
