  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Wide Ratio Gearset For Sale (WR250/300)

Kyle Tarry

Husqvarna
Pro Class
$175 shipped.

Earlier this year I bought a wide ratio gearset for my 300. It was out of a 1992 WXC250, and after lots of searching and consulting with the experts on here I determined that it should fit in the modern 250/300 motors. It should have all of the parts required to make the swap EXCEPT for some case bearings (probably ought to replace these anyway), the shifter torsion spring(s), and the needle bearings on the shaft assembly "disassembled themselves" on the way from the ebay seller to me so those will need to be replaced too.

In the end I have decided that I don't need the gearset for XC and enduro racing, and I would rather not split the cases on my bike, so I don't need this.

Asking $175 shipped. Pictures in my add in the classifieds: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/wide-ratio-6-speed-transmission-92-wxc-fits-250-300.46527/

I think it goes without saying that, while the ebay seller said the bike was working fine and all the parts look good, it is a used transmission so who knows. I have no reason to suspect anything foul.

It's all relative, but the 92 WXC trans is WAY wider than the newer 5 speed bikes, and is generally considered to be a wide ratio swap. You can look up the ratios in the parts catalogs:

12 WR300:
1: 14/30
2: 16/28
3: 16/23
4: 19/23
5: 19/20

92 WXC:
1: 11/28
2: 14/29
3: 16/27
4: 16/25
5: 20/23
6: 20/19

So, the WXC trans is 32% wider than the WR trans, which is HUGE. However, since it has one more gear, the spaces between gears are similar, so it won't be "gappy."

This would be a really nice swap into a WR that is used for dual sporting or a wide variety of terrain. I don't use mine like that and I am not inclined to split the cases right now, although looking at these ratios sort of makes me want to.

I would also call it a wide ratio transmission as well. Most people that want one want to cruise 55-60 mph at a reasonable rpm and this transmission does just that. It will also reach a pretty good top end speed with the standard gearing that came on those bikes back in the day.
