  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So I ride and race a 14' WR300 and really like it...a lot! I run a FWW, FMF Gnarly, Lectron and a Rekluse. I'm probably 230lbs decked out and am a fast B rider. So I was presented the opportunity to own two bikes ( by my wife) with the stipulation that I keep both for 2 years haha. So I liked my big 570 berg I had but it just wasn't built for harescrambles so I started thinking about the 14' txc 310 do the suspension a rekluse and call it a day I'm looking at about $6800 give or take with all that. I got on to the WB165's and they look fun guys say they will make you a better rider and I want to be a better rider so I would be around $6000-$6200 by the time I bought the 125 165kit installed lectron did the suspension and got a larger gas tank. Then I found an 09 165 with newer top end and a little less new bottom end and could have it for somewhere around $4500 after suspension lectron and whatever other little things it may need.

My dilemma is I'm a tight wad for starts but will spend the dough if it's worth it, meaning I want the thing to run and not have to wrench on it needlessly or worry about reliability. I have first hand experience with the 300 and it's rock solid! I like the four stroke due to its ability to find traction and its near 125 Handeling which would be handy as a second race bike in tight hilly stuff, I watched a guy bounce one off the limiter all last season and never had to adjust the valves and never had a failure or DNF. I like the 165 due to its Handeling and lack of costly maintenance and I also like the idea that it could make me a better rider. I've ridden a couple kdx 200's and 220's that were converted into 125 frames and they didn't seem to give up a huge amount of power to the 300 on the very bottom but after that it was all over. Im so pleased with the 300 I have its actually hard for me to decide what other bike I would possibly want.

If anyone can talk some sence into me or point out something I'm mossing I'd sure appreciate it! Thanks.

What do you guys typically spend in a year or two years for maintenance on these newer four stroke machines? $500-1000??

Theres no such thing as the perfect bike for every single situation. See post #2

I'm not looking necessarily for a perfect bike for every situation because I already have it lol! I'm looking for a friend for my 300 who will make me a better rider and or faster at hare scrambles while not leaving me stranded or leaving my pocket book excessively empty.

In the 250/310 4-stroke category you are going to do a lot of oil/filter changes ( like almost every time you ride ), say $20 a pop, and then every couple of years a top end rebuild...that would be your typical maintenance pattern. If you are unlucky you will frag the thing and buy many expensive little parts to rebuild....this is more likely and more expensive than with a similar 2 stroke.

If your riding is less than 50 hours per year and you dont bounce off the rev limit regularly then this may not matter much.

Thanks for the reply... I get some help from a royal purple dealer so it helps a little on that and I raced 3/4 of a season last year and put on about 45 hrs on the 300 so as a second bike I think I'd be under 50 hrs a year. The fragging deal with expensive parts sounds like a real good time though!
