  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

It started as normal but the idle was a bit low (+/- 1800). Went to take off on my '10 Te 250 this morning and as soon as I came off idle it started missing like it was fuel staved. The tank's about 1/3 full and the fuel pump sounds normal. In neutral it starts just fine but as soon as it gets to around 2-2.5k rpms it misses then dies. Any ideas?
I'm thinking trash in the tank is blocking fuel flow.
What sucks is this is the first time this bike has let me down...

Drain the fuel see if theres anything in there. Probably some testing you can do on the fuel pump to see if its "going"

Fuel drained, tank off (hate pulling off that hose), letting it air-out a bit before I pull the pump.

Starts fine but idles at a different RPM than usual? Temp sensor maybe? Plug? When if dies does it seem more fuel or spark related or can you tell?

Only the first time I started it.. After it died and I restarted it was in the 1.9-2k range. It feels fuel related to me. Turn the throttle and it dies. Then starts just as easy as the first time.

There arent that many inputs to the mapping on these bikes. Just the normal -intake temp, revs, throttle position etc. Could it be throttle position sensor? Fuel pump or temp sensor? Leak in the throttle body or joint housing? Does the spark plug look wet fouled or scorched?

Very strange. Pulled the pump and no trash in the screen or the fuel filter. Put it back on the bike, filled the tank and it fired up. Low rpms at first but I let it idle for about 30 seconds then it went back to normal and revved freely. I had already checked electrical connections throughout with nothing looking out of order.
Now an epiphany! A week ago I had the tank off and poured out the gas but after refilling just started the bike for a few seconds. Now I'm thinking it was just that the pump needed a big long burp before taking off this morning (i.e. cavitation) . I go to work at four in the morning so I didn't want to piss off the neighbors warming it up that early. At least I hope that's what it was. I'll take a ride after work tomorrow hopefully with no problems. Thanks for the suggestions!
