  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What Do You Think? Te449 Demo?

Hello everyone, I'm new on this forum and I don't have a motorcycle right now. I am posting to get opinions on a 2011 TE449 Demo bike that is for sale at the local dealer. The dealer wants $6099 for it and it has 421 miles on it. And who knows how it got those 421 miles? The service on the bike is up to date of course coming from a dealer.

Now I have bought used bikes before and have gotten hosed. Needless to say I do not like buying used dirt bikes. I have never owned a Husky. Only Honda's, Yamaha's, and Kawasaki's. All motocross. I am now looking at the Husky's because I would like my next bike to be able to have a plate and still be able to rip. And the KTM's are out of my price range. So what do you all think here? Is this bike gonna be reliable? It needs to be reliable as I am on a pretty tight budget. Do I "need" this bike?;)

The alternative is to save up for a 2012 TE511. But it's listed at $8999. OUCH. But doable at a later time of course. And later the 2012's will also be discounted. Please, any and all opinions are welcomed. Thanks.

It's not a bad price but it could be a few hundred better I would think if your really trying to rake them over the coals. The bikes are plenty reliable so I wouldn't worry to much on that front. I think it more comes down to is do you want a bike now or later. My take is that we only have so many days on this side of the soil so why waist any of the. Buy the bike and get riding!

FYI husky sales have been rising year after year and with BMW behind them I think the days of larger amounts of left overs will be coming to an end sooner rather than later. Big discounts will be a thing of the past.

Hall's is selling a brand new 2011 TXC 449 for $5599.00. If I could get that TE demo for the same price, it'd be a steal. If I could get it for $5800.00 I jump on it. If I had to pay $6100... I'd grumble a bit... but probably do it as long as the bike looks like new and runs great.

Guys...thanks for all your replies. This is a great site. I found out from the dealer that the bike was a factory press bike. He will not move on that price and he wants $8600 to 8900 for a 2012 449 or 511. He seems high on his prices and I think it's because of the area I live in. Businesses around here are very proud of their merchandise if you know what I mean?

I contacted another dealer that is out of state. He offered to bring a bike to me so I would not have to pay any transfer fees or extra taxes. He offered to bring a 2012 TE511 for $8180. That is the "out the door" price. A little out of my original price range but a brand new bike with the updates of the 2012's and the fact he offered to bring it to me to forego any fees is a big plus in customer service. Well what to do? I know I should wait. But life is short. I should not do this right now. What to do? :banghead:

My Humble opinion.
I like my money.
I love to ride.
2011 TE449 $7000 out the door tax liscense and all. Best price? probably not.
Big deal. I have my bike and smiles per mile are pretty hi.
Am I rich? hardly, I own a bike:lol:

good luck what ever you do.

I hav a demo bike from TriCounty, I could not pass up the $5395 price. It was sold to me as a new bike with the 6 month warranty. I figured it was wrenched on by the factory guys, and the plastic pre-scratched a little it was an awesome deal. "The dealer wants $6099" seems a bit high but the 2011 TE 449's are getting scarce.

I realize I'm writing this over a year following the original post, but I just bought a 2011 TE 449 (Feb. 2013) here in NJ for $5200. The dealer was asking $6200. When I came back from the test ride, they said, "for $5200 it's a great deal." I thought they mis-spoke and verified the number. $5200 was a price I could not refuse. Besides, the bike had the seat concepts seat, FMF slip on, bar riser/insulators, rear brake shark fin, de-smogged etc.
Oh yeah, it had 550 miles on it and they were willing to throw in a pair of Moose bark buster type aluminum handguards. I am one happy guy!

Bike runs and rides well. I'm trying to get used to that shifter and frame bludge down on the left side. I feel like I have to point my toe inward to make my shifts. Is it just me? Do I just have to get used to this or should I seriously consider a longer shifter?

You will get used to it...unless you have size 13 feet!

I demo-ed all the 2012's and yes the 449/511 feels a little weird but after riding for 20 minutes it felt "normal" to me. I initially had an issue with trying to use the clutch slave cyl cover as a brake pedal for a while.

I've been out on a few short rides and its just a bit odd. It could be compounded by my new boots too.
It definitely gets better, the spot in the frame (where the swingarm mounts) you get used to within a few rides. It probably took me 6 months to feel really comfortable on the bike and to trust what it can do. After 1 year on my TE449 I would not want to change my decision to buy my Demo bike. I love the looks and definitely being on red in a sea of orange.

Got my '06 Te450 in '07 with 200 and a little more miles on it or about 12hours. It was a demo bike as well. Out the door (everything) in CA for 5K. It was also still under the 6month factory warranty starting from the day I purchased it. Had the dealer replace the manifold (faulty on that year- prone to cracking), play with my jetting and open up the top end for shims at no cost. Rode the beast just last weekend. Still running strong.

Reads like a pretty good deal to me. And Franky B, have you figured out neutral yet? It took me a while on my '06, just seemed picky, now it's "almost" cake. My friends 2011 Te449 seems a bit picky finding neutral as well. Once you find your relationship with the bike everything is second nature.
