  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Warning! Moose Carbon Fiber pipe gaurd

A Class
I REALLY wish I'd taken photos to document this.

For those of you wishing to save a little money...stay away from the Moose Carbon Fiber exhaust guard.
Just stick with the P3 product, if you want the carbon fiber.

And for Christ's sake..DO NOT BUY FROM Rider's Discount!!!

I purchased it from their ebay store. The fit was horrible. No..worse.
I've never seen carbon fiber twist around like a pretzel. This piece did. No matter how I installed the clamps.
Two miles down the road, the rear-most end twisted UNDER the exhaust pipe.
Read that again - UNDER the exhaust pipe.

Rider's Discount refused to refund my purchase, saying it was damaged, dirty, whatever they could say.
I rode with it for two miles on pavement.
And, because I didn't ship with the original box, plastic baggy, and shitty instructions....they won't refund anything.
So....yeah.
Don't throw away the box, thinking the $100 part will actually fit.

IF (and I mean IF) you can haggle your money back - they'll only give you a store credit. Not your money.
You'll buy again from their store, or else.

Enjoy!

I have used the P3 products on several flavors of bikes including the huskey I have now. I have never had a second thought when looking for carbon fiber products for bikes wheather it be 2st or 4st. They always performed as I expected and fit and finish was always 1st rate. Plus I like to try to throw my money at somewhat local companies and in the same association if possible.

Moose carbon fiber use to be made by http://www.elineaccessories.com I have heard from several people that there quality has been going down hill. It's all second hand, personally the last thing I ordered from them was a skid plate in 03 and it was first rate but that was a long time ago.

P3 used to make the product for E-Line, but when they started selling through Parts Unlimited/Moose, they went off shore to build product. It is not near the quality of P3 products.

Yeah, it had an E-Line sticker on it.

The instructions mentioned drilling extra holes and such, as needed.
Yeah...

The P3 guard has an extra mounting location, from the photos.
Uses one of the stock shield bolts ( the longer one with two bolts). The " Moose" unit stops short of there.
On a two mile test ride, it was twisted under the pipe in that location.

Even worse was how Rider's Discount handled it.
Customer Service rep said herself, "Well, we just don't wanna take the hit for it. It's the manufacturer's fault, and they won't pay us back."

We have the Moose guard on the TXC 450 and I would have to agree with some of the statements. A year after purchase, the guard has a chunk out of the bottom and generally looks kind of dingy. I've never used carbon fiber as protection on a dirtbike, though, and wouldn't have imagined it holding up well.

As for the mounting, it was a bit of a trick. When I first got it, I was angry, and couldn't figure out how to ever get it to mount up. With a little patience, though, I got it fitted and now it seems to have reformed itself a bit to how I mounted it. I had to put all the hose clamps on and then attach the guard loosely. I ended up moving the hose clamps around several times before finding the right spots. One hose clamp had to go underneath the spring that holds the mid pipe to the top header pipe. Wiggle it around until it meets the curves correctly. Then tighten the thing down until the pipe is begging for mercy. It has never moved even with impacts and has overall held up pretty well (with the exception of the chunk).

The real question is...would I buy it again? The answer is no, unfortunately. I prefer aluminum pipe guards.

That sucks about Rider's Discount and buying things online in general. I try to keep my online purchases restricted to a few vendors on this site, Halls and Rocky Mountain.

Yours has an extra rear mounting point that mine did not.
I ride a 310.

Lacking that rear hole I was talking about, it just flops around.
Tried tightening it...until the carbon fiber started cracking. Still sucked.
