• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Vintage Sunline Perches and clutch brake handles

Does anyone of you know anything about old Sunline Clutch/Brake perches and handles from back in the day? Looks similar to a modern ASV.

I have two different old Sunline sets / complete and perfect other than finish is worn... one appears to be cast, the other appears to be plastic. All four have "Shorty " handles.

How did they work on comparison to the long stock Magura's ?

From a ergonomics standpoint, they fit my hand way better than the long Magura's and IMO they look better.

I'll spend the money to refinish them if they are favored over the Magura. I'm looking at form fit and function and could care less if the Magura was the original from the factory.

Anyone have first hand experience and does anyone know if you can still get replacements from Sunline?

Haven't found any after market levers that work better than the Magura's. Especially the clutch you know the one that takes 2 men and a boy to pull in. Problem is length of pull to ratio combination + the fact of fitting and finding cables that work. Later George

Thanks George. I have picked up two "Hangar Queens " now that both have had old Sunline perches and shorty handle sets on them. 80 CR390 and 79 OR 250. Both bikes were /had been set up primarily for desert riding... Were the old Sunline's not an actual replacement from that time? Why would they have them on in favor of the Magura's?

Does the mod where you bend /raise / dogleg the clutch pull arm by about a 1/4 inch have much effect on the pull.... I read a lot of stuf about modifying the clutch pull arm ... would love to have your opinion there as well

Thanks, Tim

They were just cheap. Take 2 clutch arms cut them so as you wind up with it being 10mm longer. Heli arc it back together. By lengthning it 10mm makes it easier to pull but if go over that makes it easier but won't have enough pull on the cable to release the clutch. Later George

Shorty Sunline Perches and clutch brake handles

I also prefer new style Magura levers, but have found the levers didn't work well with smaller hands. soo the solution was to use a bracket with a brake light switch. I then used a 6mm bolt to adjust the lever closer to the bars, Bah Dah Bing, Bah Dah Boom.

Sunline was endorsed by a Famous racer, but the quality was very poor, would brake if your bike fell over in the garage!

Thanks

I've adapted modern levers (most all run w/Honda ratios) to all my Huskies, the Magura's just to difficult for my small hands. Currently running ASVs (w/very minor work to adapt) and love them!

There used to be a product called "Easy Pull", a triangular unit the resided just forward of the clutch perch that changed the pull ratio.
Never mind, I found it at Moose racing. This neat little item works wonders on the 2-ton pull of older husky's clutch lever. Reasonably priced at $36.

On another note: has anyone done a hydro clutch conversion?

T,
When I bought my WR, it had shorty levers. Fairly OK for the front brake but not at all good for the clutch. I switched the clutch lever back to the original, long Magura lever and what an improvement that made. I also lube the clutch cable with WD-40 every now and then and have the "raised" clutch lever on the engine. My clutch pull now is very light.

I realize this was years ago, can you let me about ASV levers, Honda ratio and the mods you had to make?
Thanks
Adam
