• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Vimeo - does anyone have a paid account with them?

I am seeking more information regarding Vimeo, specifically how their $60/year paid program works. Anyone paying for Vimeo or know a bit more than can be obtained from their website pages?

I know someone who paid for Vimeo, put up an HD video, and shared a link with me - but it is not showing up as large as the other HD videos like this one:
http://vimeo.com/hd#12358381

Specifically, the video that was uploaded is 6.5 x 4", the one in the link is 9.5 x 5.5".

The obvious question would be, "Dean why don't you ask your friend?" The answer is "it is a little complicated"... but it does have something (tangentially) with cafe husky.

I do. And I can attest that my vids are not as large as the one you posted.
Even if I upload them in their native resolution (1280x720) they still get shrunk down.

For $60 (although I think I paid $50 a few months ago) you get 5gb of upload space per week, unlimited HD uploads, HD embedding and some other minor things.

If you want to use my account to play around with then just say the word.

This is actually incredibly awesome to hear.

Someone else bought a vimeo paid hosting account and they also do not have their HD videos in the larger size.

I don't need access to your account, but thank you for your kind offer. However if you could ask how videos do show up in the HD gallery I would consider that a *huge* favor.

I have a feeling that if there are enough 'Likes' they may be auto-promoted, or possibly it is a manual process such as when things are added to the cafe husky tech ref forum.

Might look at Smugmug as well. HD uploading there as well.

At this time cafehusky does indeed have a smugmug account, and we are indeed using it to host some select videos.

Here is how my gallery would look to Joe Public: http://vimeo.com/user1907538/videos

Is this what you're wondering?
Everything I upload is HD (720P), so I have no dedicated area for HD content.

If I'm misunderstanding your request then please advise. And then dumb it down for me ;)

Ahhhh.... got it!

Here's what I found: "This channel is moderated by the staff of Vimeo. If you want your HD video added to this channel, put a link in the shoutbox and we'll check it out."

To me, it seems like if they accept your video into the HD channel then they (the mods) will super-size it and post it to that channel.

Which is sort of what I expected.

One last question. Can you see that text while not logged in? (my guess would be no...)

I can see the text in the Shout Box, but I cannot write anything to the Shout Box unless I'm logged in.

Not sure if free users have the same functionality or not, but this is what I see as a paying member.
