  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Going back and covering all the bases on this bike to decide where to continue with the starting issue ...

Does anyone know how to tell the old CDI and cams from the updated parts? Can anyone supply the part number of the updated CDI?
Here is mine : 8000A7032 -- CU7539 -- CDI box #

I've got the yellow-lettered bike ... Last 4 numerals on my steering head column are 0049 ...

Also, about the cams issue, some of the threads I've read here seem to indicate that some polishing(?) can be performed on your current cams to help with this starting issue?

I don't know the part number, but the outdated cam has a straight spring leg on the auto decompressor. The correct one has a slight bend in it. That teeny tiny little bend made an enormous difference in the possibility of kickstarting the bike. Here are some pics:

I do remember reading about a guy that did some sort of cam lobe modification to his TC 250. I can't remember if it was to make it start easier, though.

My cams must be outdated then because I have the straight spring ....

I did make the bend in the spring a couple days ago and the bike started on 1-2 kicks that afternoon ...Thought it was fixed but the next day the bike returned to the > 10 kick saga again ... I'll be pulling the cap back off the head in the next day or so and I'll check it again ....
