• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

under seat fuel tanks

Seems the mass centralization is in full swing. BWM does a lot of under the seat fuel tanks. My TE511 uses this tech as well as my AJP bikes. I personally feel this is a step forward. The weight is lower and the side benefit is the air filters are higher and away from the rear wheel churning dust up into it and seem to say cleaner far longer. The new Yamahas also employ a mostly under seat tank and top airbox.

TM has just showed off their works race bikes and they are doing this now...

My TE511 and AJP both employing this design. Might be something we see more and more.

Cool to see some different approaches instead of another CRF copy bike. Honda is using dual exhaust and shorter mufflers to centralize, Yamaha is using reversed motors and under seat tanks, Berg had the 70 degree motor thing now these lower tanks are showing up in several bikes. I personally think there is an advantage to this setup. Would like to see what it would do to a 2 stroke. Interesting stuff.

It's more than just keeping the weight down low. By placing the air filter up top, air can be directed straight down into the cylinder at a higher efficiency.

See MZ, told you the 511 wasn't odd lol. It really is cool to see it on other bikes. Still think your pr5 looks like a mini 511, maybe just throw some old husky graphics on it :)

I have the 14 yz 450 and its a handful. the seat tank cover thingy is kinda a pain in the ass to take on and off, wish they found a better way to construct it. My buddy just bought a left over 13 yz 450 rode it for the first time and he was amazed at the power these new bikes have. I wouldnt even try to ride this thing in the tight stuff but in the open its a rocket. If you havent thrown a leg over one you really need to. They handle great and for me i dont see the need for maps, pipe or really anything else...graphics kit maybe.

I had a YZ450 here for a while testing Lectrons on it. I greatly prefered my 511. My uncorked 511 is also faster which surprised me. The YZF450 would be far better for MX but I do very little of that. Neither I would choose for single track but both will do it if you have to. Stock my 511 was a kitten and manageable in the tight stuff. Uncorked it is a rocket and super fun in the open. Bikes, love them all, just pick the right one for the job and have at it

A while back I was contemplating a retro fit under seat tank on older bikes. Reroute air feed & maximize airbox area for a primary fuel dump tank, with the main tank going into it. Any auxialliary tank would then also feed into the underseat tank. Just dreaming & it would a major undertaking. Small EarthX or similar battery remounted to behind the skid plate etc.
Fun to dream :D
