  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TXC310R/TE310R Plastic skid plates

I'm interested in the plastic skid plate options for the TXC310R. I have a Hyde Racing unit for my CRF250X and I love it. It works and fits great, takes a beating, and is incredibly easy to install and remove.

Does anyone have any pictures that show how the Hyde Racing unit specifically for the 310 mounts? The TM Designworks model also looks good but the mounting looks like it will probably be a pain in the neck.

Please do not tell me to get an aluminum skid plate. I know they work. I have had plenty of them and I do not like dealing with them.

I have a Hyde on my 07, it mounts with 4 bolts (two in front and two in back on the factory nutplates for the cheapo aluminum skids) I really like the plastic one. It was a little bit of a pain to fit out of the box, but once on and having engine heat on it, it has molded itself to a perfect fit now.

Go the alloy for strength. The placcy ones do a reasonable job, however it is just the one time when real tensile strength is called for they will be found wanting imho. On my 310 I have a rear slot built into my skid plate that slides over the frame join at the rear and bottom of the engine. The front is picked up by a single allen head bolt. I drilled the alloy to help eliminate dirt build up and assist with cleaning as well as helping to dissipate engine noise bouncing of the large span of sheet.

I'm gonna try a plastic one from ZipTy, mounts just like the stock, making the frequent oil changes easier.

When you do please post a few pics of it including one or two of it mounted to show what it protects. I didn't see any offered for the newer TXC/TE 250/310 on their website.

Zip Ty has tm designworks make one for them to zip Ty specs. It was the best one I could find for my txc 250

Hey Jetrep, I am with you on this one. I have had plenty of alloy plates and they failed by collapsing and damaging my case. I have been running the stock plate for a year but am buying either a Hyde racing model 102 or the TM designs version. Here is a link to the TM one http://www.tmdesignworks.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=325_327_352&products_id=977 As of now, the Hyde racing 102 looks better coverage and easier on off IMHO. Either one looks really good though

How did you decide on the 102? Their website isn't totally clear but it looks like the proper fitment would be the 79 or the 112.

I called them and asked and also commented on how f'd up their website descriptions are. If you look at the picture of the 102 it has the single bolt holding it on the front edge VS the other ones having 2 holes in the front. The ones with 2 holes are the pre xlite frames. Call them up if you are still unsure. They are only around M-Thursday.

Edit: Now I am more confused because they just changed their website since yesterday. Looks like the 112 or 102 fit both bikes???

OK news flash. I sent an email to Hyde racing regarding my 2012 TE 310 and Jeff at Hyde Racing replied stating it is the model 112 for the xlite 250/310. I just ordered one and will let you know how the install and accessibility goes. I live near Joliet if you want to check it out in person. Here is a copy of his email response if anyone needs to contact them.

Jim

You need the SG-112, there in stock and can be ordered online.

I'm going thru the same dilemma, just received the 79 and it's not the right one for a '13 TE310R. Does anybody know how the 112 will fit???

Tinken check in, the zipty racing plastic skid plates that i got are the hyde type vacuum form molded thinner type not like the latest TMD thick sheet type (material like the chain guides) like I just saw on Sutherlins 450 and what i ordered from TMD

+1 on the Hyde #112 for the 13-14 TE310R. Just pulled my receipt...

The only thing I'd probably do differently is order the black rather than the red. Mounts at two points. Up front to the OEM location. The rear mounts to an included rectangular piece of metal with a treaded insert. It's a bit of a hassle trying to hold the metal piece into position while getting the rear bolt started (a fitting end to an overly-complicated oil change procedure!).

Next oil change I believe I will try a couple dob of JB Weld on the mounting plate to see if I can simplify things by semi-permanently mounting it.

Couldn't be happier with the plate once installed. It's scooped out shape seems to help it glide over things much smoother than any other plate I've used before. Of course being plastic it is also quiet and does not bind the frame. Of all the plates I look at this seemed to offer the most protection and the fit is spot-on - looks like it was shrink-wrapped to the frame/engine. Offers good protection to the vulnerable oil line on right side (though I still use 7602 Racings' oil line guard as an extra precaution).

Not the best pic but this is the #112 on my '14 TE310

I'll definetely be giving that skid plate some consideration.

On a side-note: it looks like the jetting on that KTM is a little rich!
