  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TXC 450 Loose bolts everywhere!

Hello everyone, I just wanted to mention to anyone who may have come across a new carryover 2010 Husky to Loctite every single bolt that you can. I'm loving my new husky, handles great, runs like a champ and is making me look like a better rider then I am.

But come on husky use a little Loctite on the nuts and bolts on these bikes, first ride out both engine to frame bolts came loose with all the factory plastic bolts loosening. Second ride more loose bolts. I'm in the process of going over the whole motorcycle and using Loctite on every bolt I can find. I still love this bike though.

I had the same problem with my KTM's. 4 stroke thumpers will vibrate bolts loose, no way around it. Don't forget to scrape the paint away from the frame where the engine bolts touch.

Loctite the rear subframe bolts too, I've nearly lost the entire back end on a race!!

MY experience with a NEW husky, is that nearly every single bolt was not properly torqued from the factory. including some in the engine. I would suggest going over almost all critical fasteners, even clutch covers (yes, loose in 2-3 hours and started draining oil!!!)

It makes you wonder if the torque wrenches are not calibrated or they just err on the side of caution to avoid breaking bolts on the factory floor.

The TXC's we have needed a good going over when new and a watchful eye after that. The bolts either get blue Loctite or anti-Seize.
After regreasing everything and checking torque I use a yellow marking paint pen to put on a match line so a quick visual check is also avaiable.
Engine bolts, caliper bolts, subframe bolts, chain guide bolts...

After a race I go over every bolt/nut/screw/spoke on the bike...usually takes about two beers.
Check the screws on the bottom of the tank holding the fuel pump plate and petcocks, they can even loosen up. I caught the bolt backing out of the kickstarter...Check the pins and washer on the bottom of the footpegs....all of it.

Standard procedure after every race is to go over every 8mm case/cover bolt and water pump cover hex screws...all of it.

Sooner or later some seat and don't move, some never do.

I don't think it's Husky only, I had lots of other brands that required the same.

We do like our bikes and they have been for the most part bullet-proof. And they do get hammered!

I think with any dirtbike it's about the commitment of taking ownership, don't trust what you get when new; go over everything you reasonably can and make it yours.

Although it does make you wonder whats on the inside if the outside stuff is questionable...

Glad to hear you like the 450; enjoy!

Funny....I bought a 2013 te449 and I swear all my bolts were tightened by a fn gorilla! Not having the same problem as y'all.

Always good to check bolts regularly but some of torques they recommend are really high or some seem not enough ps easy on the small nuts I've learnt hard way
