• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

    Thanks for your patience and support!

Two days in Death Valley - part 2

Next stop was Balarat. This is crazy Charlie Manson's Power Wagon. His desert hideaway is just east of here in Goler Wash:

Fuel was becoming an issue, so we headed back north. We bumped into these guys along the road;

Life is tough out there. This terrazzo is the "soil" in that area;

The last stop for the day was the town of "Skidoo" as in the early 20th century saying, "23 Skidoo" meaning "leave", or "get out of here". That was supposed to be the town's name, but the post office balked at the number in the name of the town, so the 23 was dropped. With the exception of broken glass and a few chunks of metal there is no sign that any town ever existed here. This was Main Street at one time:

Tomorrow, day two; The Butte Valley...

I was at the CM Goler wash hangout when there were still food stuffs in the cupboards. It was really cool. I heard awhile back that the place was burned down.
Great pictures makes me think about going back. If I was only 500 miles away it would be more likely that it would happen. :cheers:

Rough out there for sure ... Those donkeys might just be your ticket home some day :)

I just saw a charlie interview and he says he wants out now ... Not on parole, just let go ...
