    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Trouble Pulling Kick Start Lever Off Shaft

I'm new to mechanics so with the "barn find" bike I mentioned in my other post I'm using this as a low risk opportunity to take apart / rebuild a motor as a learning experience.

I've got the engine down to just the bottom end, but I'm having trouble getting the kick starter off the shaft. I tried tapping it out from behnd with a screw driver and hammer but don't want to damage the piece or the shaft. Any tips?
 
Did you completely remove the pinch bolt that holds it on the shaft? It fits thru a groove & holds it on. If you did then tap a screw driver into the opening in the arm mount to widen it & try tapping it off again.
 
From the pictures in your other post it looks like the kicker is secured with a nut on the end of the shaft.
With this removed, and it still not shifting, then there is the possibility of the end of the shaft having twisting slightly. Usually due to the nut having come loose at some time.
I had this issue earlier in the year. Easily solved with the careful use of a two or three legged puller. Make sure you check the splines for straighness !
 
I was just going to say, if what ever the retainer/retension method is, has been removed. Whether it be a clip or bolt, if slightly spreading it doesn't work, a common puller should do the trick. Such as an automotive tie-rod or pulley puller.
 
cool. Am I going to need special tools to split the cases, pull bearings etc? Are these Husky / Cagiva specific tools or something I can pick up at an auto parts store or bike shop?
