    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

I got my trail tech vector today and have been installing it. Does anyone know why I need to hook it to the battery when it has a watch type battery in it. I know that if that battery dies it would be a back up. Im not hooking up the temp sensor because I dont want to cut my radiator hose. So that means I will only use one of the wires off the back of the computer.
 
Cut the rad hose. It's quick and it's not a big job. Knowing water temps in tight twisty stuff is a pretty sweet feature. The main reason I bought one
 
I'm thinking about maybe getting a Vector myself at some point so any pictures and thoughts on your experiences installing/using it would be very helpful. :thumbsup:
 
I just installed one on a SV650 with no problems, they do a great job with the instructions. Plus you get the cool looking Red anodized temp sensor thing!

My sv650 had all those features from the factory. The piece for the radiator hose on mine is black plastic so thats why I dont really like trust it. Ive never had my husky overheat unlike my KTM'S .
 
The instructions are pretty good and mine when on easy and believe me, I'm not good at installing things ... My speedo hooked up easy as the magnet for the brake fit the hole exactly on the front disk and my brake cylinder had a mounting for the cable built right into it ... i think I used the default setting of the device in this area...

Temp gauge was no problem either ... just slice into the water line :) you might have to push some reset buttons on the device, but no problem there...

I got the top mount for my bike also so when hitting the track for some racing, I remove the 4 bolts from the top of the handlebar bracket and remove the entire device ... After watching the RPM gauge on the trails, I can change gears by sound now ...


I wish I had an oil temp gauge for my bike ...
 
The instructions are pretty thorough. Water temp sensor is no problem. Hardest part is draining/reservicing coolant. Fits like a glove. I had to drill my front brake rotor a tad for the magnet. Wiring is very easy for power, if desired.

Edit: I'm using Hiway Dirt Bike clamps/guards which incorporate a vapor/vector guard. Probably similar to Trailtech's version. AWESOME guards by the way!
 
I used the magnet w/o the plastic around it and used marine epoxy to hold it in place. This is what the guys at Trail Tech told me to do.

I've never overheated a motorcycle except when my 200 spark arrestor was totally clogged up, so I don't really care about the temp sensor. My bike doesn't have a battery so I didn't hook it up to the battery (although you probablyl figured out that the backlighting stays longer, and so forth if you have external power). I also only used the 1 wire, which conveniently plugged right into the existing cable from the stock (useless) computer.
