  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

trail or racing a TE449

AA Class
I race the 2011 TE449, which has the following modifications: full fmf exhaust, jd tuner, tc449 forks, no lights, seat stop, 15front, 51rear sprockets, reiger rear shock lowering the seat height by 20mm. The forks are 25mm through the top yoke. I raced yesterday and found the bike ran best with the jd tuner set with the idle light on number one. This is less then standard. Power is now good and the handling is great. If you've,a bike setup which is different and why post a reply.

My next test will be to try out the kyb rear shock at full length,it was shortened by 4mm with having the forks in the yokes pushed through at different levels. Ive not be able the make the bike unstable to know ive gone to far.

Hi Spud.
I gather the Reiger shock must me around 7mm shorter in full open length compared to the stock KYB to give you 20mm lower rear end (3:1 ratio) ?
I will be following your analysis. I have done mine as you know and it will be interesting where you end up.
Some photos would be eagerly awaited.

Hi Spud, ive got a totally standard TE511, will be completing in a few enduros this year, do you have a good starting point with the set up of the suspension, having no experience at this sort of thing any help and advise would be great. (dont want to spend to be honest, just want to make the best of what is already there by adjusting the clickers etc.)

I used my TE449 primarily for trail riding but it is kind of ironic that my best finish last year in an enduro was when I rode the 449. It is a lot better bike than people give it credit for.

449/511, are the same bike so all this info will woek on the 511.

A good cheap set up is sort the suspension springs front and rear. Uk bikes come with a 5.1nm/53kg rear spring. This is for a rider without riding gear weighing between 12.5 to 13.5stone. The fork springs are 4.0 which are for a rider of about 11 stone. The bike sits nose down and with the weak fork springs makes thfe bike dive and tuck in corners. If you put 10cc extra oil in the forks this will slow the action and should help, but the springs are really important. The standard akra does not work that well removing the spark arrester will help and i could hardly notice any noise increase.

If youve got a little spare money then full fmf, jd tuner, tc449 cc forks, reiger shock. Ive built my bike including buying it for 1500$ less then a new ktm450.

Remember cts is designed to keep the wheels on the floor, or anti wheelie. However my bike now wheelies with the above modifications and stalling is a thing of the past. Depending on how tall you are ive got 10mm handlebar risersn

make that that mags give it credit for. Us actual owners seem to love the bike. One post after another with happy owners. It is starting to win races and get good press, they are finally figuring it out and not just knocking it because it is a husky (or worse yet a BMW/Husky stepchild).

Good shootout and the bike was well liked...

LOVE my TE 449. I've owned this bike longer than any other I've bought in the last 5 years and have no urge to get rid of it for any reason. Come to think of it, this month it will be a year! Happy Birthday TE 449!

Thanks spud. I do find that the front is main problem so spring may be the way to go. What do you think will be suitable for a 16 stone rider?

Dude... DO IT! The XC is a freakin' GREAT bike. I'm in love with mine so far. The EFI is flawless and I can haul my lady on the back seat in relative comfort. The triple is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much smoother than the BMW (which I test drove several times before making the final decision). I must not be alone in my opinion because all of the Tiger 800's and Tiger 800 XC's disappear from my local dealer as fast as they show up! I got lucky and walked into the dealership as they were rolling mine out from assembly.

DO IT. :D
