• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TR650 Test Ride...

So is it true that Husky (BMW) makes the dealer buy a $8000 diagnostics/tuning system that requires a broadband internet connection? My Husky dealers went to place an order for a couple 650's and that's what he got from the conversation.

yep.

Unfortunately for my smaller shop (Upstate Cycle in Greenville, SC) that probably means that they're going to be passing entirely on the 650 line unless something changes... You can tell BMW is getting in there and swinging their dicks around, can't have anything unless you wanna pay extra to be able to use it or work on it...

There is a bit more to it than that, and that is one of the things I want to investigate.

Kind of. The cost of the diagnostic equipment depends on how many bikes the dealer orders. The dealers for whom Husky is an "also have" line prolly won't go for it. For the dealers for whom Husky is their primary (or only) line, it's a no-brainer, order ten TR's out of the gate and they get a significant discount on the diagnostic equipment.

It's really no different in the automotive world. If you want to sell the new stuff, you have to be able to service it. You can't service it without the right tools and training for the job.

My dealer's primary brand is Husky, if you don't count scooters, but they also sells GasGas.
They're a smaller shop, and one of very few Husky dealers in the southeast, I bought one of about 5 630s that they sold, they do a lot more dirtbike business.
Their internet connection consists of a Verizon USB modem, and I helped set up their I-beat system on the old shop laptop...
