• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

To re-oil or not to re-oil, that is the question...

I cleaned it very well ( I use No-Toil ) three or four times. Look very closely at the next pic. The filter is doing its job, but this is so imbedded I can't get it out.

I kinda feel dumb even asking, but would you re-oil it or trash it? Remember these cost $30+ each.

Another question...

Why don't we use the EHS filter skin behind or over the OEM openings on the air box cover or over the internal screen? Would this not work and allow for less worries when riding in the really messy shit? I'm going to call the guys at EHSracing and see what they think. As I sit here looking at the intake, I think a filter skin cut to fit right over the internal screen would stay in place with vacuum.

Stay tuned!

I just talked with Eric at EHSracing and I'm going to send him my extra airbox so he can look into making an internal set up with the water proof fabric that might stop us from drowning the 610 in deep water.

I like the sound of that!
Maybe if they do something like that I could combine my order to ship to the UK.

Flamin postage and import is a killer!

I would re-oil and use it. But before re-oiling I would try to dislodge those particles by repeated banging the filter against a hard surface. Might knock some of them out.

Interesting but you will be restricting air flow by doing this. From my previous calls to EHS very doubtful they would have any data for their filter material. I would guess the restriction could be negated by installing the external EHS thereby putting your bike approx back to stock airflow.

I don't think the pic shows how much dirt is really embedded in the filter, I will hit it with the air hose and see if that helps.

I have the 4.5x4.5 prefilter already. I should have sent him my other cover too. Im looking for anything that will help keep a little more water / shit out. I had to spray WD-40 in the screen and tip the bike over to get water out of the boot after that ride. Most of it came in throug the two OEM openings on the cover. If Eric can't figure anything out, I might just put some skin over the screen on the outside / cover myself. They make that stuff all different sizes.

Or replace with a stock TE630 cover which has no OEM openings and keep the snorkel attached. With the EHS prefilter installed you'll get the needed extra airflow and your vunerability to water is greatly reduced. Snorkel is up high and tucked in and EHS is almost waterproof if in good shape.

Previously my airbox was drilled and snorkel removed. I bought a new stock cover and installed a EHS. I couldn't detect any performance difference between the two and now my filter stays much cleaner. Before I would get mud and dirt from the rear wheel flung into the filter openings. Once after a real muddy day I found my snorkel opening 50% blocked with a mud/tree leaf paste.

I hit mine with a shop vac, carefully of course.. Then oil it up good.. If it doesn't dislodge with a vacuum it is most likely going to stay.. Even more so soaked in No Toil or oil..
