• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Tires selection

Hello
I have find a local dealer with two great offers
130/80-17 MCE KAROO 65R 40eur
150/70-17 TKC80 TWINDURO 69Q OCASION 44 eur

I think that both tyres fits in ours bikes, but i have doubts what to choose
I use the bike all days to go at work (15-15km) and dirt use all weekends
I want to put on front rear 90/90-21 UNICROSS 54R 24 eur
Is this a good selection?
All comments will be apreciated
Thx

Assuming you have one of the ABS Terras....the rear rim size (17") is correct, but the choices of 130 or 150 are one increment below and above stock. The stock would be 140/80-17. That said you *probably* can use the tires you were quoted, but they make a 140/80-17 TKC80...so why not get the stock size?

I'm coming to the end of life of that particular one and it's been a good off-road tire, but not a lot of longevity....maybe 5000km. I'm planning a Heidenau K60 next....which is a slightly more road than off-road, but supposedly much more longevity.

The size of the front tire is right.

.so why not get the stock size?

Because tkc80 140/80-17 costs usually 117 eur vs 44 eur 150/70-17
and Metzeler Karoo 140/80-17 usually costs 98 eur vs 40 of the 130/80-17
This is the reason
How is the TCK80 response in mud?
Thx

Ay Carumba! That's some either gnarly dealer price aberration or maybe a weird tariff thing in Espana?. Too bad you don't have the equivalent of Revzilla.com over there.

Since the stockers are usually mid-priced between the 130 and 150 in the US....that would seem a good reason to try and make do. ;)

Mud seemed about the same proportionally to me on the TKC80's. Probably better than the Heidenaus and Karoos and definitely not as good as D606s.

Yes, those tyres & sizes are stock of the dealer, they were made in 2008, then the next year he couldnt sell them. I didnt know if is the same in EEUU but here is forbidden sell tyres with more than 5 years from the made date.
I apologize for my english :D

Apologies for going off topic but Revzilla specify a $300 minimium on overseas orders. Found this out last week when browsing for some Alpinestars gloves. A tad excessive I thought and duly dismissed them.
"RevZilla Motorsports will accept international orders totaling $300 or more."

So my little tire drama that has kept the Terra parked with the wheel off it for a couple of weeks now. Out for a desert ride and ended up getting off the beaten path quite a lot. I ended up with multiple pinch flats on my front. Stopped and repaired with my patch kit and compressor. Didn't pull the wheel off to do so. Got it back together and rode a couple more miles. Flat again no more patches 20 miles to the freeway. No choice, ride it out. Long story short made it to the freeway. And got picked up by a buddy.
Ordered a new tkc80 and installed my UHD michelin tube. Best I could get is 2.75oz out of balance without weights by spinning the tire on the rim(worst was almost 4oz). Nobody sells stick on weights that work with the front rim here in Las Vegas!! After looking all over hell and back I found brass reusable weights that go on the spoke nipples on EBay. Looking forward to riding it again finally and testing out my new tire!

My Terra has already 19.000km and tyres has to be changed in 3000km both of them, because sorprisingly front one is much more deteriorated tan rear..

SOMEBODY CAN REPORT about BRIGESTONE TW301-302 TRAILWING.. tHESE ARE THE BEST USED IN MY LAST Honda NX 650.
All opinions are welcome.. i am thinking seriously about TW301.
thanks TR guys.
Metzeler stocks, rubber is to weak to tarmac.. and slide front Wheel to easy.

Has anyone used the Dunlop D908 Rally Raid on a TR650 yet? I got a smoking deal on a set out of the classifieds and they will be here tomorrow.

Any thing has to be better than the stocker, I spent 2 hrs last night in the dark to go about 75 ft in some steep mud and rock. Bike hit the ground no less then 5 times. lol

I'm almost positive at least two folks on here (FabOneUp and Kenneth Webb) have used them and were very happy with them. Maybe they'll chime in here.

Your problems with mud and rock are going to be a thing of the past! The D908RR's are superb for the dirt and the rear lasts a long time. The 908 rear is my tire of choice for the Terra forever. It works extremely well on the dirt and pavement. The front D908 is a great tire on the dirt, but wears fast and is a bit unstable on the pavement. I just happened to take a pic of my bike today for another thread. As you see them now, there is 5200 miles on them. I am easily going to get 6500 to 7000 miles out of my rear 908. I use to run TKC 80's on my GS and I was lucky if I got 3000 miles out of the rear. Don't get me wrong...the TKC 80 is a fantastic adventure tire, they just don't last.

Faboneup, thanks for the reply. The tires should be here today!!! This is great news, hard to believe they have that many miles on them. What would you say your ratio would be, dirt, gravel/ paved road?

I'm about a 40/60 by miles but spend 75% of my time in the woods.

Tork, I think I am 65/35. Mine and Ken's big trip was 50/50, but my riding here at home is almost all dirt. Let us know what you think of them. Let me know if you feel like you are pushing the 908 front tire. I swear I feel drag on the front. I need to decide what I am going to run for a front tire next. Most likely a D606. Ken's front tire was super smooth on the pavement, but not so good on the dirt. I don't remember what it was. His milage was also 2 to 3 mpg better.

Got the Dunlop D908RR's mounted up. They are stiff as can be, I could see being able to limp home a little on no air if need be. They went on well thought they would be rough to do with small spoons but a little windex lubricant and they went right on.

Hopefully for you they will give you a lot of miles. Post up after you have had a chance to use them for while. I'd like to hear how they handle, what terrain they are best in, etc.

How is the stabilty of the 908's on the TR650?

I tried them on my X-Challange and they were awfull at anything over 65mph.
Worked well off road at lower speeds, but I had to pull them off.
I could not stand to ride with them most of the time.

Can't say yet, we have had nothing but rain and snow the last few weeks and I'm a puss when it comes to cold and wet. I can tell you from a quick test run at speeds under 65 they seem to react much faster than the safari. Less lean to get a quick turn.

Windex has ammonia in it and will eat the alloy in the rims. Use a tire lube like the vegetable base lube from NOMAR. I destroyed a set of rims using windex...FYI
