• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Throttle Lock Cruise Control

Is anyone using a Throttle Lock.
My wrist gets numb after a while and instead of stopping I just use my left hand. Which is fun.
I used to have a Vista (like) on my Katana. Cheap, easy to install and it worked.
Any thoughts on what's out there?

I use a Go Cruise, which broke and is now zip-tied back together and works fine. A really inexpensive alternative is a 175lb zip tie, cut to about 6" long, tightened over the throttle: get the tension right and it will function like a Go Cruise. Just google "zip tie throttle lock".

Right now I use the Cramp Buster from Cycle Gear....but I plan to get the Aussie produced Koako (sp?). It is expensive but really cool****************************************

I had a Kaoko on my GSA. It worked great. I think HighFive moved one from his F800GS to the Terra.

I have a NEP (similar to the vista cruise) on my DL1000, which works well, but I have one of these on the Terra. Doesn't fit so well with the stock grips, because the gradient between the grip and the grip stopper is too gradual, but on the cheap heated grips i replaced the OEMs with it fits ok. It just grips the throttle and uses the brake lever to hold the throttle open.

I just did 2000+ miles in 4 days with a good old Cramp Buster on installed on the Strada. At $7 it's pretty tough to beat.

Yup...and they used to make the knob part in red for the Duc's. I wonder if a red knob can be special ordered

I had a vista until it broke. Since then a bike I bought came with a Crampbuster and I really like it. Easy to take off or move to another bike with no moving parts. Cycle Gear has them for $5.99 right now.

That is what I use right now...but it is neither a "throttle lock" or a "cruise control" (title of the thread). That being said, the CrampBuster works very well for helping with the "numb hand" issue

Some folks use a big o ring on their grip, then roll it into the gap between the grip and the bar wt. when throttle lock is desired. Never tried it myself.

I just emailed Touratech 3 days ago to try the Kaoko on the TR650. It is my preference for a throttle lock. They basically used the same unit from the Sertao.

Ya I just checked the Kaoko # KBB700 on Twisted Throttle made for hand guards. Nice unit... but $115 plus shipping for a throttle lock.

If you want it to last around here, you have to buy the solid products. The less expensive throttle locks rust out in a season. I'm still not sure if I even need/want one. I will try a crampbuster first.

I don't have throttle locks on my bikes to give my hand a rest. My hands/arms never seem to get tired while riding. I use mine when I need to use my right hand to do something, and I just want to maintain traffic speed for a few seconds.

I have issues with my hand falling asleep. I'm not really sure if the crampbuster will work but it is a cheaper alternative before laying out the cash for a high quality lock.
