• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Think this will ever make it to motorcycles?

I'm not sure how this works. Is it an electrically operated solenoid controlling air pressure to open a spring tensioned valve?

its alot of hassle, thats for sure...but the possibilities of having unlimited cam variations built into one motor and having it change with driving conditions is pretty sweet

Sure would be nice to not have to worry about timing belt/chain maintenance. I had to replace the OEM auto cam chain tensioner on my FZ-09 with a manual one. Even though Yamaha has release 3 or more revisions of theirs, they still fail in ridiculously short periods of time. The APE manual tensioner I put in takes a lot of the concern out of it, but it adds yet another maintenance issue to remember to deal with.

I thought it was supposedly resolved. No issues on mine so far about 2500 miles

Yea, the odd thing is some of them are good. My buddy has the exact same bike - 2014 FZ09. His is fine. My was noisy. If you take a look at FZ09.org you'll see some people have been through all three of the OEM revisions so far. Some have their original. If Yamaha had actually recalled it and it didn't cost anything to replace I would have gone OEM.

When they show us an actual running engine I'll comment on it. Till then it's just a cool idea.

Koenissegg has a running engine. They have been doing this for some time. Currently it's on I believe a Audi station wagon that they milled the head and installed these types of valves. They stated they are durability testing it and staffers drive it every day and so far it's working well. They had an oscilloscope showing the valve lift and it's cool to see a square profile
