  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

The red wire's connected to... Nothing.

There is a single red wire that has its own connector on the back of the speedo unit, upon changing my spark plug on my 2011 TE511 I found the other end of this wire had just been sitting under the rubber gasket on top of the head where the coil sits.
After some investigation it seems like it is for the tacho, but where should it connect to?

I hope I haven't bought a lemon.

Get a wiring diagram and see.

Why the lemon comment? These are dirt bikes. If you can't do a little wrenching frankly, you should not buy one.

Hey Murph987 don't get discouraged I am not always good at wrenching myself. Thats why there are sites like cafe husky and good riding buddies. I hope you find the answer to your question.

OK so this was my first post and I probably should have explained in a bit more detail.

No the bike doesn't have a tacho fitted as standard, but there has been an aftermarket 'trail tech Voyager' GPS fitted and it has a digital Tacho in it which seems to work intermittently. When i touched the red wire in question to a live wire the tacho went to its max(14000rpm). Therefore i think the two are connected, I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the wire should be connected to so i can get an accurate reading.

I have had a few dirt bikes over the years and i completely agree that maintenance and fixing bits and pieces on a regular basis is part and parcel. I am actually decent at 'wrenching' it is just the wiring side is not my forte. that is why i chose to turn to a forum for some constructive advice.

I have had a look at the engine wiring diagram page M8 (sorry the manual wouldn't upload) and the wire is the only one in the diagram that is dotted so i am not particularly sure about it.

regarding the lemon comment I was just a little down because the bike was sold to me as a 2012 model but when i got in home i discovered a few irregularities that confirmed the bike is actually a 2011.

Thanks for the encouragement RickyDZero.
