  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

well as we all know our stock plastic is junk. many of us have experianced this and if you havent yet you will.

ill start!

so far this year ive broken a rear fender and a rear number plate.

the fender is because i looped out, the number plate broke when i was power washing the bike last night.

post pics if you like, i can try to get some up.

lets hear the stories guys!

Not sure of the real benefit of this thread as 2010 plastics are now from different supplier and are reported to be more durable...

The new BMW owned company has already listened to feedback and addressed the issue.

Just my tuppence (two cents) worth!

are they making plastic of the 06 bikes?

i like the cemoto stuff the best, really durable so far!

Like an idiot, I didn't trim the leading edge from the upper rad shrouds like I should have before entering NJ's finest stick farms. Just broke my right upper shroud two weekends ago. Bugger!

yeah i did that too****************************************

also ziptied the shrouds to the tank covers so i dont collect all the brush between them.

Both shrouds are cracked on mine, guess I'll get some 2010 shrouds.
The front fender has been bent like a pretzel, but it still springs right back into position

I have had little issues at all with the Husky plastic. I don't hit the ground much though. Crap breaks when you smash it into stuff. :D

I can attest that the shroud plastic is stout. As is the frame downtube:thumbsup:

That alder was pretty damn strong too.

I broke my left side plate within days of getting my brand new SM610. It looks like the grab handle on other bikes, but it's not. It's hard hoisting that thing up onto a stand. Grab handles would have been nice...

Wow,...I'da been thinkin' more about radiator safety than plastics if I'da been in that predicament. :D

What had you done there,...try to run that tree over?

I was trying to clear the trail. I had snapped one about 30ft before this pic was taken, but this one was a little more resilient.

I was pretty sure it wasn't going to break, but my buddies appreciated my efforts.

The Motosportz rad guards are damn strong too. Forgot to mention those

nonono, the grey shouds are way stout, even I havent thrashed them yet!

im talking about the tank covers!

i broke this trail blazing, i think some small trees may be the culprit of the most recent incident.

I just replaced the shrouds on my 4 year old 250X for the first time. I wish my Husky plastic was as good as Hondas.

I haven't had to replace plastic yet on my 6 month old Husky, but I'm starting to drill and patch. Broke my number plate side cover, by lifting the bike onto a stand. Gray radiator shroud cracked and drilled. Tabs on the colored shrouds long gone. Remarkably my fenders are still good.
