  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE510 Counterbalance Shaft install.

A Class
Hello all, after a ride on the weekend I have just about had enough of the vibrations in my bike. Gets to the point where you can hardly feel your hands anymore. Its not so much of an issue on the dirt, but I often ride on the road to commute and to get to tracks.

Now I have seen the parts catalogue and know what parts to get, also I know its a cracked case job, but will renew a few things in there when it all gets done.

I was just wondering has anyone on here ACTUALLY done this mod, and what results? Too little gain? Best modification ever? Loss in power? Please let me know how it all went.

Something has to happen and this is the most logical way to aleviate the vibes that are killing me on long rides.

(or install a set of flexxbars?????????????)

Thank you.

robertaccio here on CH put a c/b in his TXC 450. Said he loved it. I agree on the pavement the 510's are buzzers. I make sure to wear proper padded riding shorts (EVS my fav.) and the vibes don't bother me in the dirt.

I've posted about this many times, but "vibronators" really helped my 510, that and progrip 716 grips

No I'm not affiliated with the company.

20-30% reduction at least in vibes

best of luck
They state on their site in your link that there not available for Husqvarna original handle bars. So you changed your bars and installed a set of their dampners also ? I would also like to reduce the vibration at the bars, even offroad after a couple hours my hands are so numb that I can't feel my fingers. I'm thinking about seeing how well the motor sits in the frame when the engine mounting bolts are loosened and shiming if necessary. Doing this helped in the past on some motors where the frame was actually being pulled togather by the engine mounting bolts.

What are the parts necessary? My TE510 absolutely hurts my hands when I ride on pavement.

From what I gather you need the following parts:
Capture.PNG
5 - gear - 800099915
6 - counterbalance - 8000A3435
7 - gear - 800099916
8 - roller - 800047773
Capture1.PNG
4 - screw - 8A0055241
8 - bearing - 8A0019768
9 - plate - 800091602
Capture2.PNG
4 - screw - 8A0055241
9 - bearing - 8A0019768
10 - plate - 800091602

This is from the 2009 parts catalogue, so i will recheck the numbers, also i am getting prices on all these items today. Also you will need gasket kit, oil etc... engine out and case cracked job. Wont be cheap. But then again, a set of flexxbars are like $400 which you could bend and stuff any time if you happen to drop the bike. This counterbalance install seems like more of a permanent fix for the vibrations.

Remember I did this mod on my 2008 TXC450 during my 250 hour rebuild the total parts cost was @ 200 bucks. This was the single best mod I ever did on the bike. Guys I can not stress enough how much better the bike is with the C/B shaft for all activities from trail cruising to all out racing. Way less vibe= way less fatigue and the machine just feels so much more refined, like some other brands. I though it would increase the "flywheel" feel but I actually feel that it spins up easier with the C/B shaft installed.
As stated above its a simple mod, you will need a competant crank rebuild guy. If your splitting casr and pulling crank have crank guy do a crank rebuild (removing the flywheel weight, disc) and aligning and press fitting on the C/B drive gear. The only thing above and beyond is that do what we did, put some welds onto the gear/crank to prevent the gear from spinning on the crank. we put 4 evenly spaced/balanced welds on it. They have slipped on these engines causing catastrophic crankcase failures, I still can t believe they removed them from the 450/510 offroad line, but not only that the oem depended only on interference fit to secure them (with no pin or other locking, anti spin/slip device.)

Yeah I have renthal fat bar somethings with some ancient cycra probends.

I think I ordered the bottom set on this page:

I hate to oversell something as I can't be sure it will work for you. But... I was looking at changing bikes before I put these in. Now, I'm not.

The bars are not DRZ400 smooth, but significantly better than stock. My hands are not completely numb after riding anymore.

I'd try these before tearing apart the motor. They might be "good enough".

Best of luck

on the top drawing the un numbered pin shown by the SM crank drive gear (and the TE/TXC flywheel weight). Is just a shop alignment pin to properly index the crank gear onto the crank all the series cranks all ready have the alignment pin holes and you can even see it on the gear in the lines drawing. We used a close fitting long drill shaft cut down for use as a pin.

Oh, If I ever had the cases apart, I'd probably do the counter balance thing too..But I would not tear it apart just for that....and add a taller 6th gear...but I'm more a low key occasional dual sport rider, not a racer.

Cheers

add on, Flexxbars are really great I have them on the 2011 TE310 they are great and also well supported from FasstCo.

Parts total in australia just for the components are nearly $700. I WILL be doing this when the cases come apart for a rebuild etc, but wont just do this to kill the vibrations in the meantime.

Sounding promising robertaccio - good to hear that it actually worked. I will keep this updated if/when i go down this path. Keep all throughts coming in though. Thanks.

I just took my first ride after the counter balancer install on my 09 te510. All I can say is WOW! Everything thing robertaccio said is right on, the bike is much smoother, obviously less buzzy, and overall feels more refined. Why didn't Husky do this from the factory? If they had they may have won a shoot-out or two from 08-2010.

George at Up-tite Husky did the instal. He's a great guy that does great work! As for the the taller sixth, I'm not to sure but I don't think an off the shelf solution exists for the TE.
