  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE449 vs. TE511

Hey new on the forum and couldn't find the topic was wondering what people's thoughts were on the 449 vs. the 511, they are the same weight but local dealer told me the 511 just had more power down low in the rpm range......just wondering, thanks

That's essentially it. Can't go wrong either way. Wanted a 511 myself but the year end deal on a 449 was too good to pass up. Love mine and unlike most people on this site, its basically stock.

ok was really planning on keeping it stock for the most part just didn't know if the dealer was telling me this to push an extra $300 lol thanks!

not planning on racing but my discount with warp 9 is just asking to be used......was planning on riding it on the street a little bit I guess like a supermoto almost.....dealer said the 511 would make more sense on the street.....also I am a short shifter.....guess it comes from hypermiling a civic lol

Saving 300 plus on the bike plus the discount you have a 449 makes more sense. Then again I'm cheap and since its your money go all out! I'm sorry I don't have any other input. I've only ridden a 449 and it was a TC. I loved it though. Why don't you look into a leftover SMR511?

I rode a totally stock '13 TE449 last November in snow-covered desert trails. I expect a lot from bikes, and the TE449 doesn't need ANYTHING (unless you're going to race, which you're not). It's an absolute sweetheart that I fell in lust with inside of a mile. MAYBE it might lack a little bit in highway beans, but all that means is you have to plan ahead a little to pass someone, but really, who wants to ride a bike like this on the highway anyway?

thanks for the thoughts, I got a brand new te449 for $7100 which i figured wasn't horribly bad, waiting to get a pick up to go get the bike now but the dealer called offering a 511 for only $300 more which is why i was asking originally , didn't figure i needed a 511 let alone a 450 but dealer was sort of pushing me that way....

Congrats, I bought a new 2012 511 TE a month ago. You will love it, if you were looking for a race bike with a plate.
I would have got a left over 449 if they had one, they are so close to the same I would have taken the best deal too.

I can offer this...my stock 449 gearing is fine for cruising 55 or so. I have given it a healthy twist from time to time and it has seen 74! I could change the gearing, but feel it is a good compromise and don't want to make it less off road worthy.

Congrats and enjoy.

Only $300 more for the 511? When I bought my 511 the difference was $1000. $300 for 27cc and more power seems like a no brainer to me.
But that's just me. Never ridden a 449 and they are exactly the same bike in every way except the 511 has been bored out 27cc. You can't go wrong
either way. I will say this though, neither one is freeway worthy with stock gearing. Mine tops out at 83 mph but cruising at 55 or 60 for any length of time
is pushing it. Close ratio tranny is just ridiculous. Luckily for me I use mine for trail riding mostly which the close tranny is fine for but whenever I have to do
a stretch on road connecting trails or whatever I get frustrated. Attn: New ownership, wide ratio tranny please......my 2 cents

I put a 45 tooth rear on mine and it cruises at 55-60 just fine now, plus it will hit 100!

I have ridden both back to back, the 449 seems to rev slightly quicker and the 511 has a little more meat in the power. Other than that petty much identical. the old 450 / 510 were way different the 449/511 are almost the same.

This may be a little off the subject, but I went with a leftover 2011 TXC 449 for $5600 and put my own dual sport kit on.
I had the husky power up kit and the Apro. can on , and its more power than i need.( note ; that I ride a modified Hayabusa and a WR250 and these two pull pretty hard.:D ) I put it up against my buddies TXC 449 and it pulls much harder than his. Does fine on the interstates and single tracks.

thanks guys for the last minute advice! to jimmy c, here in chicago retitling something would be a horrible pain in the ass as well as having to take it down south to get it "inspected".....was wondering where i could get parts for the 2013 TE449, i imagine since it's identical to the 2012 I could just use parts meant for a 2013?

Yeah there the same. Swing by motosportz.com to get the cool protect your bike stuff and tires if you need them. And if you are doing slow speed stuff try the coolant that zip Ty racing sells. I had a few boil overs on a TC 449.

Probably have already but check out the newest 5 pages of the 4 stroke section. The 449 is discussed a lot. Especially the proper oil level and the emissions crap. Oh yeah, motosportz sells the JD tuner too. Also, steering stabilizers that look so cool that even if you don't care for stabilizer just having one mounted on the bike adds cool points. Congrats!
