  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hey Guys,

I wanted to try and find clarity on something my bike has been doing since the day I purchased it. I'm not sure if it is the way this technology works, or if I actually have an issue that needs to be addressed. When I hit the starter button, I let the fuel pump prime for the 3 seconds, I wait for the dash to display the words "race map ll," and then I fire up the bike. There are times where I go to start the bike, it cranks over about 10 times and then the dash goes blank with an unsuccessful start up. The bike remains unresponsive for at least 60 seconds before it allows me to start to crack over the motor again. If the second attempt results in the bike not starting the dash goes off again and I'd have to wait another 60 seconds before being able to attempt to start again. Is this how this is supposed to operate? I've never known if this was normal, but it leaves me feeling a bit uneasy when I deep in the woods unsure if I'll be able to start it up again. The bike runs excellent, it almost always fires up the first round, and I've had no major issues other than the alternator frying on me which I have replaced. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
JW

Bad cell In the battery. It is loosing voltage while under load and dropping below the low voltage min and then the dash drops out. After a few minutes it regains enough energy to try again.

I cannot fully remember if this problem occurred while I had an acid battery, but do you think the earthx battery I’ve been using could be the culprit? This is my second earthx battery, when my alternator went bad the bike tried to stall out but I kept on the gas to get home and that might have fried the first one, but I’ve always felt kind of uneasy about having a lithium battery. It’s still fairly new technology and I was wondering if that was causing me issues too. Thanks for getting back to me.

if your bike has run in the last week, forget the doing the "prime"- just hit the starter normally (with or without cold start- depending on ambient temps). no throttle.
