  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

TE449/551 and Giant Loop Bags

Is anyone using a Giant Loop Coyote or Mojavi Bag on a 449/511?

I've not seen the bags in person but wonder if there are easy and secure tie down points available on these bikes. The bags sure look like they would be useful if they attach securely.

Would like to shop a local business if possible, the Giant Loop is based in Bend.

While on the subject, how about the Giant Loop tank bags? Any 449/511 drivers using those? I'm thinking the tank bag and a 8 liter MSR Dromedary bag puts me over 5.5 gallons on board. That will work for this summer in the desert!

Lol, I am trying to fit my new GL Mojave right now and came here looking for photos. It will fit and look nice but I also run a nomad fender tank and am trying to get the two to play nice together. So far I will need to lift the tank to access the bag zips. Not really a big deal but I'm still fitting. Ill put up some pics when I get close. They will attach securely no doubt. They are very nicely made and American as well.
 
I used the MoJavi bags on my TE310.
Mud and dirt gets under the bag and trashes the plastic on the bike.
You couldn't wreck it better with an orbital sander.

I had a quick look to see how these bags would fit on the 511, I think it's a bit of problem to fit.
Didn't try very hard, tho.

I also have a Fandango tank bag sitting around someplace, will have a look at that next weekend to see if it could fit.

I went to the wolfman website and I like the wolfman enduro bags. I will email them and ask if they have fit the enduro bags to a 449/511.

Let me know what you figure out with the Wolfman bags. I have a 11 TE449 and I would like to mount some enduro bags.

I don't know if it's any help or not, but here's what I did to get my GL bags mounted on my 630. These are the passenger peg brackets that came with the bike, repurposed. I used the mounting hardware that came with the brackets, and cut a piece of AL angle and drilled some holes in it.

Then, I put a stainless steel quick link in the middle hole and ran the straps through that.

Hi River Runner, My main concern with the Wolfman Enduro Saddlebags was if you would be able to get it high enough on the exhaust side. Without a typical number plate going over the 449/511 huge exhaust I think it would have to ride a little higher.
 
I just checked out the Giant Loop website and they look to be similar products. Giant Loop does offer a heat shield that can be used for either product. I like the Wolfman Enduro product for our small sized motorcycles. It is just a matter of how much stuff do you need to take with you. I like the idea of a 3-4 day self contained adventure.
 
GL's heat shield leaves something to be desired. It's just a kinked up piece of sheet metal and a couple of giant hose clamps. It'll scratch your can up, if that's a concern.

I bought a pair of supermoto muffler sliders to keep the back off my can:

Two half sliders with an extra heat shield for both, just to be safe. The can never gets all that hot, but I wanted more scratch protection. That Leo ain't cheap. :)

This pipe improves power! Top end! RPM and is lowest heat I have ever felt. Now I got this on EBay for a really good deal but I recommend it..
