  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE449/511 any good for a rally bike platform?

It is good the see Husky have not dropped the Rally Raid world 100% following the speedbrain departure.JOSE LUIS PEREZ TAKES THE VICTORY at the Mexican Rally Raid.

He is riding what looks like a modded stock TE449 or 511 (not the speedbrain bike). Which has got me thinking, are these bikes any good for a Rally/Raid platform. I know from owner feedback and from what I read on this site that the gearing is a major limiting factor for long rides and distances at high speeds which kills it for me since doing a gearbox swap on a new bike is a right royal pain when there are other alternatives around. However, given that IMS and Safari are now offering large desert tanks, combined with the rear on board tank, fuel range is not a problem. I have seen quite a few G450X based Rally Bikes and the CCM bike must have considered gearing on the Kymco engine. Interested to hear from current owners if it is possible or even worth considering.

His rear sprocket is really small . Looks like a 40t wich would make sense for all day speed in the dirt . Down right horrible for trail riding but ok for 20mph and up.

A non-modded Kymco engine, like many others, is not strong enough to endure long range races. A Zipty modded 449 platform would work and I can add a taller 6th for added speed.

I was actually looking to buy a G450X, but what I have heard is that they stopped making the brand in 2010 and was part of the resource switch to the new Husky TE 449s'...

Too bad cause the G450X from what I heard, is quite a nice bike.. low seat too, around 35 inches.

The new Husky is better all the way around.

I must be old school because when I think of rally bikes the 450 seems toooo small :) I would want somthing with 100hp. I would want it to be atleast 300 lbs with 12+ inches of travel.

The original G450x came in two power modes, 19HP and 30. Then BMW boosted it to 52 HP and it began to have issues.

The G450x is better in only one area. The G450X has a wider gear box. Better for a dual sport or cross country.
Any dirtbike that has no frame under the engine is poo poo. Plus it had butt ugly graphics . If those two things were fixed I might had bought one. Glad I didn't :)
