  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE310 Questions From NZ

Julian

Husqvarna
B Class
Hi all, well I've just got my very first Husky, a 09 TE310, to replace my KLX300 which got stolen one week before Xmas...Ho ho ferkin ho!!
I've just installed a JD Powersurge 6x and thrown on a 12 tooth on the front which has now cured the schizophrenic nature, gone is the completely useless lower gears and the unpredicable high revs power delivery. Straight out of the box from idle all the way up to the top(well as far as I've had the gonads to go so far;)) it's like two different bikes.
Just got a few questions of you guys, part being this is my first EFI bike -
  • Is there any benefit (or problem) in removing the engine breather from the induction circuit and installing a breather filter, Uni or K&N type?
  • Now I've installed the JD 6x I have noticed a backfire/stall when snapping the throttle from low revs. Could this be from the mixture at idle/low revs being to rich? I have not changed any of the 6X settings.
  • Probably the most anoying thing at the mo' is the bloody rattle from the muffler, the insert that is in it - long and thin with a couple of holes in each side at the engine end. The retaining circlip dosen't quite hold it in tight enough and it rattles around inside the muffler. Anyone else had this prob? And is this insert just a decibel killer (man it sounds GOOOOD without it in and you're usin that throttle...music to the ears) or is it a spark arrestor type?
Thanks in advance for any answers/coments. I'm off to spend some more time bonding with my hot little Italian model;).

I removed my vent hose and installed a small filter from Auto Zone to stop oil from dripping out of the airbox. I think it's part of the emissons crap.
That rattle is a spark arrestor and the rear rotor rattles also. Keep the throttle WFO and both go away! LOL

I've removed the baffle from my 250, frees up some power although it's quite loud.
I have just cured my low end bog with the JD tuner by changing the red/blue setting down to 1, no more stalling.

that rattle in the exhaust drove me mad too,try a dob of high temp silicon in the end can****************************************:banghead:

Exhaust - Remove the retaining circlip. Stretch that mother so its "rest" diameter is slightly bigger than the original. Put it back in. Fixed

I strongly believe the power spread is better with the baffle IN! Even top end power strangely.

My exhaust pops if backing off abruptly, but has ran without issues (motorwise) for 5000km. Check your spark plug isnt too black.

Julian,
I'm absolutely no help at all. I live in Oregon but, have been to the south island twice to hunt and tramp. I have to say NZ is one of the greatest places on earth! Enjoy the heck out of your new 310 and if you need someone to ride with, I'm happy to become an expat.-Robert

I just bought a JD tuner and am waiting for it to be delivered. I hate the flameout when taking off. I will comment on the "backfire/stall when snapping the throttle from low revs" after I install and test it.

Hi duggoey, yeah I've been playing around with the settings on the JD 6x and leaned the green down to 3/4 and the green/blue right down to 2 and she's running a lot sweeter now, no more backfire/stall flameout(which I found more pronounced after a high rev run and then takig off from idle. I also found with the insert removed from the muffler the settings as delivered were pretty good but saddly that magical sound coming from the exhuast would not be appriciated by all.

That same magical sound is definitely not appreciated by neighbours when the noise reverberates around in my shed late on a Saturday night when testing to see how loud it is - answer is loud..

After running these settings could you check your spark plug condition and let me/us know? Would be interesting to see if leaning/richening affects the internal temps much.
