  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE310 kick start

Heath

Husqvarna
Hey all,

I have a 2011 TE310 and I just cant get it going using the kick start, elec start works well and roll start no problems. Maybe one out of every 50 kicks I can get it to start, and I cant figure out why, is there a sequence to follow??

I have a 2010 TE310. I use the kick start once a month...to make sure that it works...lol...usually starts on the 2nd kick, and I dont give it any gas.

I think these are just a little tougher to kick over in general. I have kicked over a couple honda dirt bikes and chinese pit bikes and can get em going pretty easily. Though I have only tried kicking over my 2010 TE250 once from a cold start (why should i if there's an electric start?)... it seemed to be tougher then most bikes. Took me a handful of attempts. But it was from a cold start, tho I tried doing the electric starter before that once and only had to hold it for a couple seconds -ruoh ruoh ruoh :o sound three times- before it fired right up.

I wonder why it's harder to kick over, maybe some loose connection down there as opposed to the electric start? The seat height certainly doesn't help the kick starting, and my right footrest is also in the way when I kick downward.

I have an 09 TE310, I have only ever kicked it once and it started, good to know it works but the button is easier.

On non-husky 4 strokes the idle fuel setting is key to having it start easily. My CRF450R is a 1 or 2 kick hot or cold. I would think that the TE should be able to start nicely with the kicker. Cam.

The 310 has a higher than peer group compression ratio that will take a tad more grunt to kick over

I have a 2011 TE310 and the electric start is currently out of commission pending battery issues. I haven't had any issues with kick starting mine. Occasionally I'll need to put the bike in neutral but it's generally as easy as my WR250F was to kick over. I have had two surgeries 7 screws and a plate in and out of my right ankle and don't have any issues kicking it to life so I would say there's and issue. Start with checking valves also does it matter if the bike is in neutral? If so the clutch may be remaining engaged just enough to cause to much drag for you to fire it to life.

There are lots of good tips in the thread "Electric Start is OK, but manual kick start is a no go?" from a month or two ago. I was able to kick mine over for the first time after following the advice there.

I kick mine over every now and then to make shore it's all good and have never had a problem. Mind you it is quite hard to kick, but just find the top then rip in :) also put it in neutral, helps a lot :)
