  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 511 Thermo Fan short

Husqvarna
A Class
Hi all, during a ride today I swapped my 2013 TE511 for a mates KTM 690. After a quick single trail section we pulled up and compared notes for about 2 minutes, with both bikes idling. As we went to move on, I noticed my 511 was spitting its coolant out under the bike..

We rolled down a short hill section to get some air flow through the radiator, and at the bottom it wasn't leaking anymore coolant, but also notice the thermo fan wasn't spinning.

Not thinking too much about this we kept riding.

About 5 minutes later the 511 had a really bad electrical burning smell. My mate pulled up and switch off the bike, but I was in front so I didn't realise.

It was about 10 minutes before I got back to him, but I could still smell the electrical burning smell, and there seems to be a melted hole in the thermo fan, the blades were seized and the back of the fan was still too hot to touch.. The radiator however was cold enough to open the cap and top up the water (only took about 100mm)..

We disconnect the wiring from the fan, but the 30 AMP fuse under the seat had blown. Luckily a spare fuse from the 690 managed to fit, and I rode the bike 50K's home with no problem.

So.....

Is this a common problem?

Should I be worried about other wiring on the bike given the 30Amp fuse was blown?

Does anyone have the part number for the fan?

Should I kick my mate in the groin for breaking my bike?

Or, should I sell up and buy a 690, the are a damn great bike to ride, maybe just a little heavy in the tight stuff, but the power,,, wow.

Well the update at the moment is, I've ordered another $160 fan from the closes dealer and decided a good kick in my mates groin is the way moving forward......

Seems like from what you've said, that the stuck fan caused the motor got hot internally & blew the fuse.
The fuse should have protected the wiring from damage (that's its job) but it would be a good idea to have a careful look at the covering of the loom from the fuse holder down to the relay & as far as the fan for any signs of melting/overheating.
If you're happy with the wiring, i'd say plug it in & check the operation of the fan at home before committing to a ride.
It's possible that you may have a cooked relay & the fan may not turn on. If you suspect it is no good, try swapping it for one of the others & see if the bike runs. (One is fan, one is fuel pump, one is system power)

Totally your choice re your mates groin :D
