  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 511 speedo relocate

I just loosely put a zip tie around the bars and the brake/throttle lines to move them out of the way so I can see the speedo. It worked really well and does not hinder the movement of the lines.

I am considering moving the speedo. In the mean time I tied back the brake and speedo line with a small bungee cord. It allows the lines to move and keeps them out of the line of sight.

The speedo on my 2011 TE449 is pretty useless. I took the number plate apart a few months ago looking for a way to at least angle it so I could see it safely. I end up using my Garmin 76 GPS instead.
Did you just extend it up? Like with a spacer?

sorry its taken so long.. I used aluminum sheet and fabbed an s shaped bracket to bring it up and back. I'm workng on a cleaner setup thats part of a handguard mount. I'll post when its near finished.

That's a great idea. The speedo is only good if your up over the bars or in a tuck. I use mine for a trip meter more than anything else, oh and a clock on occasion. I guess the Odometer is useful in terms of maintenance...

anyone do this also?
Great tip  I have try this!
Funny, I almost forgot about that factory speedo since you cannot see it while riding  I thought about move it up and tilting it towards the rider for a view angle while sitting. Be great to see Faults and Fuel light when they happen! I cut one of those Screen protectors for cell phones and put over the Husky speedo meter and my GPS screen. Now I don't feel so bad when I take my glove and wipe the dust off :D

I considered this mod because my Flexx bars are 2.5 inches higher than the stock bars. Flexx bars offer great new real estate for mounting and I like the Trailtech computer better.

Hi, auto guages, Its too stupid hot here in the summer to srew around wth half ass AC so I taught myself how.
My TE is brand new so I'm hoping the stock speedo is reliable, I am wondering about the voyager, anyone use one?
I have been using a garmin 60X on my last few few scooters using a Garmin bicycle handlbar mount, its become less than reliable by shutting itself off too often, I dont know if Ive beat it to death or am technicly challenged.

Garmins will sometimes shut themselves off when the battery connections jiggle off/on.
Sometimes squeezing an earplug in to keep the battery in place will solve the issue.
No guarantees, but worth a try.

good fix, I put 2 silicone drops on my Garmin 76 battery compartment door and let it dry .

My thoughts...
Trailtech i:thumbsup::thumbsup: . Works great for dual sport event rides. Pulls power from the Bike so no battery issues. However, Has a few dual sport flaws. I asked trailtech in future releases to solve my #1 problem. If I am viewing tracks i need to follow, you have no speed or wheel trip meter. You constantly have to switch screens. On the tracks screen we have time and temp  . Remove time and temp and put speed and Trip meter. Allowing the user to change those two readouts on the tracks screen would be sweet! I would be a very happy dual sport rider:thumbsup: Having a very large Trip meter filling the custom screen would also be sweet for many riders! These upgrades are customer driven. Email trailtech your thoughts!
I included a few photos below. The factory meter gets lost in in cables and the Flex Bar PAD. Moving this up would be great. What happens if you crash the factory meter would be expensive fix. Maybe tilting this and raise it a little would be perfect and adding a bar mount guard  . Not seeing the factory fuel alarms, errors or the trip meter I use for monitoring total distance could cause me to run out of fuel. Having two trip meter,One for fuel and one for roll chart resets is ideal. Could Trail tech do this :excuseme:.
I overshot a turn once and pulling my boot out from under the bike, busted the jog nob off the trail tech. The guard will be my next purchase :D

Trail tech has no default maps like Garmin. With a few computer tweaks adding major roads, gas stations before a ride to the proposed tracks is not difficult. To explore an area I open Earth mark all the trails in the area and export as a GPX. Works great. The large Speed indicator while on pavement is sweet! , Logging of temp, Altitude, :applause: includes outdoor temp. Having a 2Gb memory stick in the GPS allows me to store more rides and tracks then I will ever use:lol:

Moving and securing the factory display would be a great improvement. Currently I only use the factory display @ gas stations and stops when I can see it.

Cheers!

Hey, I'm in one of those pictures you posted up there, too funny. Those flexx bars are almost manditory on these TE/TXC's, they really fine tune and improve the progressiveness of the front suspension. Ty's running them next year too!

Tinken, Can your shop do this for me or sell all of the components to do this? After I tightened my spark plugs to much on my VW in 1978 and broke the compression washer and caused a hole to blow out of my cylinder head I'm afraid. I'll do oil changes and have gotten brave to change spark plugs again but...
