  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 450 or TXC449

dirt guy

Husqvarna
Hi everyone. I don't know if i will buy either but I am considering a new to me Husky, and am looking for opinions on the best option. I know a guy that has a 2005 te 450 very good condition, hardly used and gently ridden. It has a few nice things on it (comfy seat, heavier springs, Ty Davis suspension that should be ok for me with a little tuning). I have ridden it and liked it very much. There is a dealer nearby that has a 2011 txc449 factory demo that I could buy for about $1200 more than the TE. I have not ridden or even sat on one of these Huskys. I am pretty tall and therefore kinda heavy for most stock suspension and will need to add stiffer springs at minimum. The TE guy says his bike is far superior, and generally has nothing good to say about the TXC. What do you think. Another thing that I have been thinking about is parts availability. The dealer close by isn't all that close, and they do not have an online parts store. Where do you get your parts, and will this be a problem. I have always had Japenese bikes and the parts are plentiful, but I have recently ridden some ktms and the Husky and felt much more comfortable on them.

I'll bump this for you and wait until someone weighs in with a definitive opinion on the 2005 TE, I am familiar with the later versions of this motor and have high praise for it, but I am probably unaware of any specifics issues of the earlier motors.

I can give you my opinion based on two related bikes ive owned. The 07 SM510R and a 13 TE449. Also, I have ridden a 511SM several times. The 510 was a more brutal hit with power. The 449/511 is more mellow in my opinion. It is also a bit smoother. Other than engines I wouldnt want to sway you either way; I have not ridden a 450 or 510 offroad.

I have had a 04 TE 510,07 TE 450 that were dialed in. My 11 TXC 449 has a better motor, handles better and feels much lighter on the trail. I rode a 08 TXC 450 at the NW Gathering and thought that is was a really good bike but I would not trade any of them for my 449. All I have done to the 449 is the air box mod and suspension. Only $1200 more for what I consider is a much better plat form is a steal !
Unlike your friend who is the 449 expert. I ride a lot and sample a lot of bikes. The 449/511 platform is the most underrated bike made and therefore the best value.
