  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 449 Shock Removal

gillies

Husqvarna
AA Class
I recall someone posted up a link to a video that showed how simple it was to remove the shock on a 449/511. I've searched but can't find it.

Anyone know where it is?

Thanks!

Factory service guy Charles had an article in Ride More about how to do it...however I find I have to remove the lower subframe bolts and tilt up 15mm or so to pull the shock out.

Have to hold your tongue to the left and balance on your right pinkie, thats what I had to do to get mine out anyway

Got my shock out yesterday (albeit not the OEM Sachs unit) without having to unbolt the subframe, I was proper chuffed with myself :D Two bolts and a few minutes she was free! I guess the shorter shock on the SMR does make things a little easier.

Just a heads up for anyone else who needs to remove the shock from an '11 TE449, pretty simple job. Remove the upper and lower shock mount bolts, which are easily accessible. Then remove both lower subframe bolts. Pull up on subframe and work the shock out. Reverse to install.

Replaced the stock shock 5.1 with a 5.4 from Race Tech. Static and Race sag are spot on for my weight now(190+gear). Also rebuilt the forks with Gold Valves and raised the oil level 10mm. Can't wait to get it on the trail.
