  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 449 Forks Harsh

Ive been playing with the shock rider sag and i quite like a 100mm setting. But when i do that the forks seem to get harsh and dont handle sharp edged bumps very well.Forks are 12 out on rebound and 14 compression. To keep the 100mm rider sag on the shock instead of 120mm,is there anything i could to help the forks handle this shock setting better? Thanks.

I am at about 190 now, no gear and the springs on my 2011 TE511 are a good bit to soft. Soft springs will make your bike ride harsh because it allows the suspension to ride to low in the stiffer part of the travel.

Before you do anything, do this:
Drain the fluid out and replace with like amount of ATF fluid.
Ride it for a day.
Drain the ATF out (ATF is high in detergents)
Put in BelRay 2.5 weight, correct amount.
Take all the compression and rebound damping out/off.
Ride it over problem areas, rocky downhills, sharp edged obstacles, etc.
90% sure you will see a marked improvement. I did.

Never could get my 2008 TE250 forks plush. Work good untill you hit 4" square edged rocks slow (tight trail speeds). Sends a harsh hit to my upper body and after 50 miles I'm done. Very light oil (true 2.5wt) and one click soft on all settings worked the best.

well i've got a te510 with that harsh feeling when i ride over the rocks (which is about all that is around here). i am having drew smith work up my suspension so i'm assuming i'll have the plush ride after he is done with it. everyone has been saying that this is the best mod for the bike so i can't wait to see and try it.

At 170 I was bottoming my TE449 out regularly and experiencing harshness in the forks. Now at 150 the bike feels substantially better. 400 miles in and I still have not touched the clickers or springs.
