  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

te-449...flame out king

never had a problem with flame outs on the te449 before. i was running jd tuner, race map II and stock can. switched to the fmf slip on and now she will hardly run. about 25 flame outs on a 2 hour ride. not fun. any suggestions

Change your JD settings to go a bit richer, TPS reset, and make sure your idle is at least 2000 RPM. If that doesn't work, map 3

The instruction sheet for the JD has suggested setup for running the FMF. Start there if your haven't already.

What RPM is your idle? Try 1/8 to 1/4 turn on your idle screw and see how that feels. As soon as I got my idle 100 or so RPM over what felt right they totally vanished.

I did the TPS Calibration. installed FMF Powercore 4 . Got map 3 on it and happy with it. Had maybe 2-3 Flameouts in a 5 hr ride. And ist starts awesome now , even stalled in Hot conditions. TE511

No one has mentioned this, so I'll chime in since I've got the same bike/setup. Do you have the quiet insert for the FMF? I ran my bike without the insert and flameouts happened regularly. Added the insert and the problem went away entirely. I lug the engine all the time and can blip the throttle at low RPM to lift the front with no problems. I've got a 2011 model, so map 3 didn't work for me. Best of luck.

Map 3 is the cheapest solution to flame-outs. The PowerCommander 5 is the real solution to the 449/511. Not only for flame outs, but for power and the ability to switch maps on the fly. For me, fuel is a huge limiting factor and swapping to a mpg map on the fly greatly increases my range.
