  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TC449 Trail Sprocket Suggestions?

Billy D.

I ride my 2011 TC449 in fairly tight trails and swapping out my original 15/53 sprockets. I find myself mostly in 2nd with some 3rd on those trails... and wondering if I should change to 14/51 or 14/53 to even out the use of those gears.

What are the other 449/511 trail riders running?

i have a txc449 and i'm wondering the same thing , in the tight stuff i run 1st and 2nd no problem but out on semi open trails it seems that 3rd and 4th are too close and alot of shifting is required.
i have learned that this bike requires it to be ridden hard in order to have it respond like i think it was designed to, but i still think the gearing could be better.

I just got a 14 tooth front for the TXC449 that I am going to try out for the Victoria day long weekend coming up (TXC has a 51 tooth rear same as the TE) as I rarely seem to use 5th or 6th gears but could use a lower than 1st gear.

Maybe that is it... i just watched some video of last weekend and I can see that runs better when revving on the outer loop than it does bogging on the trails. With a 14 tooth it may rev on both.

Here is a short video of running the outer loop with stock sprockets, i will post another of a trail:

The kind of trails I ride require lots of clutch with normal gearing.... I have found on my 511 a 13-51t gearing to make 1st gear up hill switch backs, hair pin rock sections and slow crawling technical single track a breeze ! Way more control of the bike at slow speeds when the going gets tough !

wow... very different type of riding... and what are the chances, but I wear that exact same helmet
Great helmet ! Was the best most inexpensive I could find and it took a good hit last Wednesday that probably saved my life ! Ha ha planned on buying a replacement but I can't find a weak spot where it was impacted
