  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TC449 ECU into TE449?

Dangermouse449

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Hi all,
New on the block. Mechanic owner of a '11TE449 (Akro & racemapII)
I have had poor EFI running since new & need a proper fix. (No cold idle up[Meh], high idle on over-run & stalling on cracked throttle).
I have been reading the posts for a while here, done all the resets, adjusted the idle air screw etc etc etc.
The dealer has had the bike several times, spent days checking all the sensor settings against a known good bike, upgraded to map3 on someone elses 511ecu (This worked for one ride only):(
I'm getting tired of being quicker than my mates in the bush on their Bergs & KTMs only to stall or overshoot because the EFI system is flawed!

I have a downloaded shop manual for the TE/TC range.
Following the wiring diagrams, it looks like I could run the TC ecu (Cheaper than PCv & programming)
No one seems to complain about TC449s.......

Q - Does anyone know if the ECU plugs are the same (Just missing the pins for 2nd tps/idle motor/O2 sensor)
I should be able to run on the non-emission maps, control the idle with the by-pass screw, have a dual-map switch & live happily ever after!!:applause:

Hope it works

I would not bet on the TC ECU functioning properly. I would think the cost of the PVC would be very similar
and we know it works, plus it has much more tunability. PCV can be purchased for less than $300 online.
I don't see any advantage going with the TC, an unknown vs PCV.

Thanks for the reply.
I respect the 'known quantity' of the PC & the similar cost.
I'm just personally not a fan of plug-ins on efi stuff, i don't like extra wiring added in on bikes/cars.
Once it runs right, i don't want to tune it any further. Also, i'm not sure the PC would fix the main idling fault - High idle on over-run.
This seems to be from the original ecu driving the electric throttle open (maybe an emissions thing??)
I was hoping to get a 'factory look' fix by plugging in the TC ecu & looking after the idle myself (Bypass screw only), just not sure the plugs are the same.

Yeah I'd go with the PCV. Zip Ty has maps for download. The PCV becomes your new ECU as I understand it. Basically it bypasses all of that and takes over. I'm assuming it'd be much cheaper also.

Also for the TE owners, it seems they mostly either gut the stock exhaust or use a FMF.

My TE came with the Akro pipe on race map II.
Plug in ecu only tells the factory ecu 'lies' from the sensors to get the factory unit to add more fuel or timing as needed. It doesn't replace the original, so I don't see it fixing my overrun high idle fault.
I know the PC is a good thing, I just don't reckon it'll help me here.

Husky owners love lies; we have an affinity for lies.
Yes, I'm beginning to work that out =)

I've partially answered my own question with some part number snooping around.

The 2011 series bikes all had the same basic ecu (Changed in later listings that I found), so it would seem the only difference will be the software uploaded to them.

Maybe I can convince my dealer to try the TC software in my bike & see how it goes :)

This would be soooo much easier if we could go inside the ECU & fix the FAULTY original tune.

Shame on Husqvarna for making us put up with it!

I love the way this bike rides, but after the last weekends antics (a dozen stalls & 2 stacks as a direct result, then the hanging fast idle fault)

I'm about ready to part with it!

Even did the resets in the bush while all my Husaberg & KTM mates laughed it up, did NOT change a thing.

The first user tuneable replacement ECU I find will replace their poorly setup rubbish!

Powercommander 5 makes the 449 really come alive, even more so than the Map#3.

..... and the hanging idle??

Surely it can't do anything with that.
I have been off into the bush on more than a few occasions when it does 3000rpm on a closed throttle.
All the resets, new maps, different ECU (from someone elses' bike) air-bypass fiddling & THIS is still there from time to time.
You never know when it'll sneak up on you to try & kill you, only a matter of time before I cuddle a big tree!!

Rang my local distributor & they basically said go back to the dealer & try all the same stuff again.
Not if I'm paying for it!

I have ordered a Lithium battery to try to stop it pulling volts low when it stalls on compression (all earths clean/tight, battery holding 12.4 & drops to around 10v on normal crank for 1/2 a dozen cranks).
I have noticed when it does this I loose trip & clock from the dash & the facia goes through the 'start-up' details, so thinking the ECU volts go too low as well & maybe loosing it's memory....
After that I'm screwed if I know. Set fire to it & claim the insurance :applause:

Known issue, negative loop feedback problem with original wiring harness. 2012 updated harness to solve.

Great new info, thanks.
Do you have a p/no. or bulletin no. at all?
Not sure the dealers/ distributor know about this as I have been talking g to them about it since new.
Thanks again.

The 2012 harness removes the key switch. Before you purchase, I will consult with Ty further.

Add powercommander first before buying a new harness. Much cheaper and easier to get a hold of.
