    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

TC 450 ?

I am thinking of getting a four stroke to go with the wr165 .
To be used for MX and may enduros.
Whats the thoughts on a '10 TC 450 or a TXC 450 ? I like idea of no fuel injection - less hassle - wiring issues.
Can the TCs be trail ridden easily ?
Do they need taming down ?
Do they kick start easily - most times?
Are there any things to look out for?
I cant find many TXC s but TC s are quite affordable - around 1500 less than the TE
I rode an 09 TE 450 on an mx track and liked it a lot but cant find one at the right price anyway

I miss the power and torque of the 450s but would I be better off getting a '13 TXC 310?

I rode a 2006 TC450 for a few years. I rode it everywhere, track, trail, dirt roads. It is definitely made for the track with it's gearing. 1st gear wasn't low enough for tight trails and 5th isn't tall enough for long streches of dirt roads. But it can be lived with, just not ideal. A 2010 would be a better bike than mine due to the updated frame in 2008, much better handling. Mike kick started fine every time unless the valves needed adjusting. There have been a good amount of reports of cracked cases around the kick starter though.
 
I'd go with the 6speed on the TXCs ... I'd take a chance on the 310 acting OK and leave that 450 for deserts or something also...

My TXC250 had a 6spd also and when you bumped the FS up 1 tooth(14), it really opened the gear changing up greatly from that default CR feeling .... Still no street blazer but noticeable better gear spacing.

Not sure on the exact gearing between the 2 bikes, but my 250 TC bikes have that higher 1st gear ... Its not too bad till the riding starts getting a little technical and hilly ... I'm doing lots of shorter, steep climbs and steep grades and I can feel the tall gear in this places ... After the trail speed catches up to the gearing, there are no more trail gearing issues on my bikes.. I'm lucky enough that I do not need to go much past 30mph here on the hardtop for 5th gear is ok here also.
