• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC Tc 250 2014 Cdi Box Vs. Sx 250 Cdi Box

Hi all,

I just joined this great forum. I`m from Finland and own a Husqvarna TE 250 2015. I will use it mostly in motocross type riding, but it`s good to have lights also if needed. I was first going to buy a mx model, but my friend sold this bike so cheaply I could not resist. I will reduce the weight of the bike and myself also... Engine will get many upgrades.

I will remove these parts first: Side stand, battery, e-starter and hand guards. It will get Slavens e-starter elimination kit. Later lighter weight Michelin Starcross tyres and also lighter inner tubes and rim locks. It will get stiffer springs also to reduce the sag as these TE models are so soft for mx use.

I want to ask if a TC 250 2014 CDI box has basically the same ignition curve as SX 250 CDI box has? There is one used TC 250 2014 CDI box for good price here. If it is basically the same part I will buy it then. Other mods will be:

- 13-50 secondary gear ratio vs. std European 14-50. 1st gear will be too short for mx use and 6th gear too tall, so basically usable gears for mx will be 2nd to 5th depending of the track

- Keihin PWK 38S larger carb vs. stock PWK 36S. I will use Suzuki RM 250 (2008) NECJ needle in 3rd clip and start with 175 main jet and 42 pilot jet (ordered)

- Moto Tassinari V-Force 4 reed valve (ordered)

- RK Tek cylinderhead made for our 98 octane pump gas containing 5% ethanol (I will order this asap)

- SX 250 or this TC 250 CDI box for more ignition advance (I will buy this TC 250 2014 one if ok)

- Ignition map switch

- NGK BR8EIX Iridium spark plug (one step colder heat range as the original 7)

- Full Bill`s Pipes exhaust system (I wil order this soon)

- I will first start with the yellow power valve spring, but maybe later test it with red spring

Gear ratios are different for TC 250 vs. TE 250:

1st gear: 2.000:1 vs. 2.286:1
2nd gear: 1.600:1 vs. 1.750:1
3rd gear: 1.333:1 vs. 1.250:1
4th gear: 1.143:1 vs. 1.126:1
5th gear: 0.955:1 vs. 0.948:1
6th gear: ————- vs. 0.828:1

TC 250 has 13-48 secondary gear ratio vs. TE 250 14-50, but I will use 13-50 so a bit shorter than TC 250.

Cheers from cold Finland,
Janne

First, congratulations on the new-to-you bike!

While the TC ECU will "fit" and will "work," it's still not going to perform the way you think it will, unless you also put a TC cylinder on it.

Sell the TE and buy a TC if you're going to motocross more than anything else. You'll hate the TE transmission (even with your gearing change) and power delivery for MX use even after buying all the crap to attempt to make it something it isn't.

Don't waste your money on an RK head, you'll still have to set the squish properly (especially if you're going to MX it), so just have your head cut to achieve proper squish (which is different for *every* engine).

What would be really cool for the woods though, would be to put a TC300 kit (which comes with the correct ECU for the engine) on the TE bottom end. You'd be about as close as you could get to having a 2015 TX.

Thank you!

The cylinder for both TC 250 and TE 250 are the same. Cylinderhead is different. Piston is the same. So I will disagree when you say it will not perform the way I think. Because RK Tek had not at the moment a black head available I bought now first a TC 250 head and CDI box from 2014 bike. I will buy later RK TEK head to it.

I know I have to get the correct squish clearance around 1.0 mm, but there is more than just the squish and cutting the head when comparing that to RK Tek head. RK Tek head will definitely perform better and be money well spent. I think I can live with TE transmission and shorter secondary gear ratio. I'm not going to sell this bike. If I want and need a MX bike I will buy that also later. I like more a tuned 250 than a low rev 300. This is just my way to do it and I will pay for it. So I will definitely do it this way.

But I still would like to know if Husqvarna TC 250 CDI box is the same part than KTM SX 250 CDI box?

I will answer for myself and to info other users also. TC250 CDI = SX250 CDI. I have just installed RK-Tek head and now I decided to change back to TE 250 CDI for less agressive/less advanced ignition map. RK-Tek heads combustion is faster so less ignition advance is better. More top end power and over rev this way. I tested RK-Tek head with TC250 CDI and it has awesome low and midrange power/torque. I think it has anyway too much ignition advance for optimum high rpm power. I had previously installed TC250 head that was 0.5 mm milled and TC250 CDI. They worked well together like they should.
