• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

SWM 650 -> The 630 returns!

Hi guys,

The SWM importer from the Benelux just posted these pictures. The black/red one was poorly received and they decided to use the official SWM colors.

What do you guys think?

Interesting....
If the motor is straight from the 630, this will be good news for long term parts.

I wonder whatever happened to the Shineray copy, which was identical to the original Husky 630?

Shineray is the chinese parent company that decided that the only way to get some sales in Europe was to throw money at Italians.
So now there is an Italian factory (former Husky), Italian staff (former Husky), European part suppliers and a European bikes! :)
Also SWM will be the R&D center for all Shineray brands.
There might be a few little changes (I hope for a few extra hp) from the standard 630, but it will mainly be the same. So good news for us!

Really happy to see this. The bike looks virtually identical to the TE630 but I haven't looked at all the details. Hope they sell them in the US. I also hope they read CH to see the few things that need to be improved. At least it appears that the side stand on the SM version is steel. Sub-frame?

i like it too i cudget [new word] talked into a 400ish version with a Lectron but that will never happen sooo im safe

I am happy you are here Erik Italhusky to keep this news flowing, and that you will be a SWM dealer.

I wonder if they did bump up the displacement closer to 650cc's? Surely the motor can handle more hp, like the Eddy Seal 634!

If a guy could just have one bike, wouldn't this be it? With two sets of wheels and a Giant Loop saddlebag, of course. Dirt... sport... tour...
KLR-ish utility with some style, and speed. :applause:

Scud, this would pretty much be the one dual sport to have. My only caveat is that for really long rides (TAT 8500 miles round trip) or for places that might have very tight and steep trails, I would choose my fully set-up WR250R. The 630 is what I use the most as it is very comfortable and I like the power and road going speed between dirt sections.

Erik, any chance that you can get with the factory and get them to take care of the sub-frame and side stand issues during manufacturing? It would be so easy for them to do!

I think you should add: and give the motor a 1 piece clutch basket and give the rear wheel a cush hub. Sure it would be a little more to do, but it will pay for itself in longevity leading to repeat customers and new customers by the continued praise it would receive.

I sent them an email asking if they would straight up sell me a complete engine. No response yet. It was in English however lol.

About 90% of the staff speaks English. So this shouldn't be a problem. I think their main focal point is starting production before they start selling stock engines. :) What engine are you looking for? 650/630? I might be able to help.

About 95% the same as the 630. Not sure about all the changes though. I will hear that in a few weeks!

Nope they didn't! Reliability before performance I guess. SWM will be playing in a lower price range then KTM. So their target audience are more "casual riders" that are more interested in reliability then competition.

I can contact my importer, but sadly I am just the lowest guy in the chain: the dealer. So I will try, but I cannot guarantee anything.
