  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc Switching from BR9EG to BR8ES??

So I have been having a lot of issues with my wr144 loading up really bad. I have been running a 36mm lectron. Running 40:1 Motorex

Bike runs ok its just loads up the second I let off the throttle.

Today I put in a br8es that I had left over from my kdx and it seemed to run much crisper with less loading up.

Is it safe to run the hotter plug??

I ride mostly trails in the mid rpm range

I would also suggest using the iridium BR8EIX. The iridium tip burns cleaner plus you often get a noticeable performance increase. I have them in every engine I own. Also might want to check your jetting as it sounds like it is running super rich somewhere. Cam.

What octane rating is your fuel? I would steer clear of hotter plugs and chase jetting buuut it may be what the engine wants, need some fellow 144 lectroners to chip in on plug ratings.

I would keep the plug and change your oil to one with a lower flash point. The Motorex looks pretty high.

do you know what rod is in your lectron? have you tried leaning the rod? it should not be loading up so quick...maybe after 10 minutes of gnarly tight stuff but not as soon as you let off the throttle. i run castor based oil (which is considered dirty with high flashpoint) as do some friends and we idle out bikes for up to a minute and ride lots of tight trails mixed in with wide open stuff and rarely encounter "loading up"..a friend and i both run klotz supertechniplate which has a flash point of 460 degrees! no spooge with proper jetting...this is on older huskies and also a 95 360 with a lectron, all 40:1

i will echo the above sentiment that a heat range change is masking another issue

I have the ms3 rod, I have the power jet open only 1/4 turn (anymore then that and it gets wayy to rich) I have the rod about 1 full turn leaner then the starting point the guys at lectron gave me

I run Motorex at 50:1 in my WR 125 (stock TMX). No problems at all. Don't use an S plug. That's the only type that I have ever fouled (in my WR300). I like the Iridium plug for both my WRs, and have had good luck with the stock heat ranges. I also use the world famous, cruddy California ethanol pump gas.

have you tried going leaner on the rod? i wouldnt get too hung up on straying from their suggestion, my 360 had to go about 2 turns richer to get good bottom end with no hanging idle. you will know when it gets too lean as the idle will hang and it wont return to idle as quick as it should..it does seem weird the pj is almost shut..
i take it your filter is clean and not over oiled?

Filter is good, I have had this problem since I got bike. With power jet open it spits raw fuel out of exhaust

I use a hotter plug in cooler weather. Rode today in 20degrees F. Still spoogy.
You need to rejet but the hotter plug is a bandaid.

I haven't had anything to do with the lectron carb. Could a leaking needle and seat or float level set too high cause this issue??
Perhaps low compression??

float level can, yes, but that should be easy to verify on lectron as they have a clear float bowl and even include hash lines to show where fuel level should be..the power jet only works in the top 1/2 or top 1/3 of throttle, depending on how carb is set up

My question really is will a hotter plug hurt the bike?
not likely going from an 9 to an 8. I would not run a 7 if I were you. I've been running an 8 on my WR250 and my YZ125 for years because it performs better especially when riding tight single-track it's less likely to load up and cleans out quicker when you get on the pipe.

Some pistons and chambers respond badly to hotter plugs if the plugs hot and your lean you risk holing a piston, if you run rich not just more oil but fuel as thats the cooling during combustion i wouldnt worry too much but i worry alot more than others.
Huskys have fat domed pistons and are well made you may see hot spot under the piston when you dismantle in future... If your plug is like ash white and almost crumbly your far far in the danger zone.
