• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Suspension work - LTR or Zipty... or...?

Being in so. cal. I have quite a choice on suspension work for my TE310. I had my 250x done by precision concepts which they did a great job on but for some reason I'm feeling that besides being a bit expensive, they might not have the husky knowledge / sachs shock knowledge that I'm looking for.

I'd like to send my stuff to LTR but shipping can get pricey vs just taking it to a more local shop (I can drive the stuff to Zip-ty). I really don't know anything about Zip-ty and it seems they just learned the ropes from experience vs LTR being a trained mechanics. One one hand zip-ty rides in the same area that I visit so that's a plus. The downside to Zip-ty and others is the extra cost for the oil that LTR doesn't charge. I can see charging for extra parts and such but oil shouldn't be one of them in my opinion.

So the question is...Where would you take your stuff to? Thoughts?

ZipTy knows huskys. I'm sure his service would be top notch but have never used them personally. I had less at LTR do some stuff for me, great trail suspension. Very plush and forgiving. If your fast or race a lot Ty would probably be the man. If you trail ride and are of average speed LTR would for sure treat you right. I be both would make it very good regardless. Right now I use TBT and am really liking the results. Dave over there seems to get plush and race speed control really well.

Seems if Ty is close and his prices are good that would be your ticket. Good luck.

I'm totally satisfied with my ZipTy suspension lower and valves on my TE310 I use for desert/mountain riding. Will go back to him when engine needs rebuild.

ZipTy Racing is owned and operated by Ty Davis. All suspension work is performed by Ty Davis. Ty Davis has hardly "just learned the ropes". More on Ty Davis. Zipty Racing manufactures suspension parts for Race Tech. Imho Ty is one of, if not the best suspension mechanic in the United States. And his prices are actually very inexpensive.

As many know here on this board, I am extremely picky when it comes to my suspension. Ty set up my suspension on my TE511, with all my gear and packs on, I weight 310lbs. My 511 handles G-outs at 60+ w/o a stabilizer and doesn't even twitch. I know most of the suspension company owners here in SoCal on a first name basis, but no one touches my suspension but Ty.

I recently have Ty re-valved and serviced the suspension on my 08 TE510 and really happy with it and good price too. Beside that the shop called few days later to follow up to see how the new suspension works out.
I highly recommend Ty Davis.

Can I get a phone number for Ty,I have a 2008 te 510 that I've owned for about a year,I've taken it out 5 times and love the bike, big ride this last weekend and had my first problem, fuel pump vibrated out of its cradle, took it apart and used 2 zip ties to secure it back where it belongs, hope it stays put.i need advice on the suspension, seems to ride rough, rebound feels fine but the compression feels stiff,(doesn't absorb), bike is very sketchy on fire roads, front end wants to wash out easily,if I'm not on the tank the bike doesn't want to turn, thanks guys,I'm new to this forum, looking forward to hearing suggestions, thanks

I wished I had good things to say, but I'm not very pleased with the results. Hope you have better luck. The only thing I can think is the kyb's weren't a decent platform on this bike.

If there was something wrong with your suspension from Zipty, please call us and bring your suspension back so that we can adjust it to suit your needs.

Agreed, they have been willing to be very helpful. No issue there. Good guys as far as that is concerned .

Ty builds all of the suspension himself. There is no doubt you are in good hands. Even Caseli would sneak his suspension to Ty.
